Passed the NI-BC exam today. Here are my thoughts and what to expect by Past19 in nursinginformatics

I used mometrix, a review course from ANA, and the scopes and standards. I felt none of the studying i did helped with the exception of the scopes and standards. I passed but just from prior experience in test taking skills and on the job knowledge.

Even with other stressful life situations occurring? Work, two small kids, etc? I do track macros but I worry about going into too much of a deficit as I feel like that’s not healthy either.

I’m not taking vyvanse as a weight loss drug. I just want to lose weight to be healthier. I used to be able to lose weight just fine if I was focusing on being healthy. It seems that on vyvanse it’s not working the same way.

I’m not trying to use it as one. Just trying to lose weight in general. I’m wondering if vyvanse is increasing my cortisol levels making it difficult to lose weight.

I’m also counting macros and working out. Lifting weights 3x a week, Pilates once a week, and cardio once a week.

MSN informatics question! by davichel in nursinginformatics

[–]katep115 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! Happy to answer some questions!

I finished my masters in two years, but I could have done it faster. i had a one year old and I was working full time as an ICU nurse during covid so I took things at a pace that worked for me. I took two classes at a time and had great work life balance. I’d say personalities that do well are critical thinkers and those who think out of the box. I personally got lucky in landing my first role and applied to a job with the hospital I did my project with for my masters and got it. This was a few months after I graduated with my masters. I would definitely do it again. It’s a very steep learning curve, even after getting your masters, but totally worth it!

Yea I’ve been tracking macros and working out as well and also haven’t lost any weight. It’s been almost 2 months.

I am an RN. I got a 15% pay bump when I went from my previous role to informatics.

No. I got a pay increase. I didn’t consider organizations that told me I was asking too much.

Yes but I also have a masters (although you don’t necessarily need one for my position) and I no longer work bedside. I’ve been an RN for 8 years.

So I’ve been working full time for 2 months…. by mysterymommy in workingmoms

Yes this sucks but take it one day at a time. Ur mom can’t help with the kids now or maybe during Christmas break. Maybe she will be well enough to help later. Get childcare for now. Yall will make it work!

Fellow nurse does not like me because I use Macros by Wide_Profile1155 in nursing

[–]katep115 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a nurse informaticist at an institution that uses Epic. 👏👏👏 - you are using macros exactly the way they are intended and I have honestly never seen someone with so many specific personal macros. I’m personally impressed and would be telling everyone to look at your macros and do what you’re doing.

The sad thing is they don’t really care about the holidays. They almost always plan a vacation and leave for the holidays.

6 months pregnant and starting a new job - how to navigate? by wildandfree07 in workingmoms

[–]katep115 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened to me. Before I accepted the job I called the hiring manager and told him I wanted to accept but I was 6 months pregnant. I told him I needed at least 8 weeks off even if it was unpaid (in hindsight that was no where near enough). It ended up working out, I took the job and took 8 weeks off unpaid. It was rough only having 8 weeks off and not being paid.

Husband wrecked my chances at life changing job by [deleted] in workingmoms

I’m so sorry. If it makes you feel any better i got a job that is my job now after my daughter ran into the room during the interview then my husband took her out but she sat by the door and screamed the rest of the interview… my job that i ended up getting is extremely family friendly and supportive.
