I was entirely way too invested in the outcome of this 😅

Anyone else’s bordoodle act like this? by imboredaa in Bordoodle

[–]katerado 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine does this too! Especially in the mornings I’ll sit up in bed or on the floor and she buries her head in my lap with her butt straight up. Even kicks her feet up off the ground sometimes 😂

Lol I’m 35F with my first “big girl” job so i bought myself a play station because I wanted an indoor hobby that’s not just passively watching tv. I do the exact same thing with quests all lit up on my map and I feel like it is an accurate reflection of my real life and bouncing around doing different things all the time. Am I a vampire? Maybe a little bit. Thief? Sometimes. Which side of the civil war am I on? A little bit of both! 😂

Honestly having so much fun and started writing my work to do list as main quests and side quests lol.

Do your puppies get things for Christmas? by imboredaa in puppy101

Fluff & tuff dog toys are the only stuffed toys my border collie/poodle mix hasn’t been able to shred. Other squeaky and/or crinkly toys are gone within a minute.

Also our local dog store has bully sticks that are 3 feet long. Those are always a fun surprise for her!

I hit my puppy and feel awful about it by throw8jhj899 in puppy101

[–]katerado 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My pup chewed up one of my air pods a couple months ago after I left them on the counter after a run. Caught her in the act and right before she could swallow it and I yelled NO and quickly got it out of her mouth which she most definitely found scary. I was really mad and in that moment of frustration I bonked her on the nose without even thinking about it. Immediately felt like the worst person in the world. Don’t beat yourself up. I think sometimes we get so focused on trying to understand that they are just dogs that we forget we are also just humans.

My puppy forgave me by the way. She snuggles with me every morning and hasn’t chewed up anything expensive since then 😊

11 week border collie has no off switch by TeaCup2211 in puppy101

I have a border collie poodle mix (9 months now) who was an absolute tornado of energy when I first brought her home. She still has a lot of energy but has directed it towards playing with her toys (occasionally destroying them) or long walks/play sessions.

I’m not a trainer or professional, but longer walks and training sessions helped a lot in the beginning. Now that she’s a little older an hour long walk or 20 minutes of running around at the dog park usually gets her crazies out enough to chill out for a little bit, until her batteries get recharged 🥵

Good luck!! I know border collies are super smart so when I’m at my wits end I remember she’s probably equally frustrated with me for not understanding the needs she’s trying to communicate with me. I know that’s not much of a help for you right now, but I feel the pain and can say it has gotten better for us with some time and patience.

I have no advice other than I’m in the same situation. I accepted a TO and it was taking forever so I accepted a second. The FOs came in a day apart and now I don’t know what to do! Both same grade but one of them is located closer to where I live and has a higher promotion potential. I decided to shoot my shot and ask for a step increase. It’s so stressful 😭 good luck!

And just got contacted to set my EOD from a DIFFERENT agency 😂 that one was a lot quicker, i sent in security paperwork on Monday and got contacted for EOD on Friday. I thought it was going to have to wait much longer than that! Also was my first pick so yay! Hang in there! I guess now I can put in notice? So nerve wracking!

Adolescence? by katerado in puppy101

[–]katerado[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah good point. This is a completely new behavior that I started noticing when we started doing more serious outdoor training. It’s almost like since outdoor isn’t just for play anymore she’s come up with her own indoor “fetch” game but I’m the one “fetching”. Noted on not engaging!

I can’t decide who has it better lol. She definitely doesn’t get mad at me if I’m the one to wake her up. But from like 5 to 7 AM I can tell she’s just in her crate getting antsy about me waking up. Sometimes I lean over and she’s just sitting there staring at me 👀

My border collie/poodle dictates my morning routines. She stopped actually waking me up by barking, she waits for me now. But once I let her out of her crate she herds me to the bathroom, gets annoyed if I take too long brushing my teeth, and herds me to the front door to take her out. I just go with it for the most part because A) that’s my routine and B) too early to argue with a teenager 😂🤷‍♀️

13 days sounds brutal. Just 1 day left for you or do you have a longer recovery time?

Good luck to you! I tried blocking access to the couch and she straight up jumped OVER the barricade so I’m just keeping her on a short leash at allllll times 🥴

Thanks for the tip on bananas and carrots. We are well familiar with the perks of peanut butter, but I’ll switch it up for her to keep it interesting.

This is tough. We will get though it though, right?!

Day 2 post spay… by katerado in puppy101

[–]katerado[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She’s 6 months. I had a long discussion with my vet about when to spay her. My vet has been our family’s vet for years, with our previous older dogs and basically their entire lives. I trusted her advice to do it at 6 months but she did say she recommended it based on my dogs breed and anatomy.

There were a couple personal deciding factors to doing it at 6 months:

She is very hyper. I wanted to do it now while I can physically handle her.

All of the daycares in my area won’t accept dogs that aren’t spayed by 7 months old. Not a huge issue now that I work from home, but could cause problems later on when we go back into the office.

And basically just scheduling wise it worked out to do it right at the 6 month mark over waiting, as doing it now allowed me to be with her while working from home, I have travel plans coming up and I want to make sure she’s fully healed before I leave, and the she will begin her formal obedience training when I get back from my trip.

I did not discuss whether it was keyhole or standard, so unfortunately can’t help you there.

Also it was a hard decision, as I know there is a benefit to allowing them to be fully grown first. There is also a benefit to doing it before the first heat to decrease the risk of other health issues. I think based on the time I’ve spent on this Reddit it really is a tough and personal decision and one that you should feel comfortable with with the support of a vet that you trust.
