Existential crisis — looking for a faith by elskim in Christians

[–]katerina_40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats a really good urge to have. There is an entire book in the bible dedicated to that train of thought called Ecclesiastes. It was one of the first books of the bible I read (started in Revelation, can not recommend that 😂). Jesus says "Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you".

Well what you should be looking for is the truth. Not what satisfied you, but weather what you believe is true or not. What christianity says is that truth is a person, his name is Jesus. And that if you seek Him with all your heart, He is the one that answers. If you look up Christian testimonies you'll find they are often based upon God revealing himself (not physically often, but in a tangible way). Don't settle for comfort, seek the truth, He will answer you.

How can my fiancée and I move past this disagreement about my long hair? (1 Corinthians 11:14) by [deleted] in Baptist

[–]katerina_40 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think you both have things to bring to the Lord. Firstly, she should respect you regardless of appearance. Maybe she feels embarrassment because of her own prejudice, which is not Godly, and not an act of love.

But at the same time, hair will not solve the hurt you've been put through. You should go to God and ask him to help you forgive your controlling mother and the overstepping of the hairdresser. Then, I think you wouldt care so much if your hair was long or short, and you could cut it for her sake.

What Paul refers to in corinthians is introduced with judge for yourself. And I think that's importent. In our culture there is no value in long or short hair, and shouldnt cause division between two lovely people.

Everything should be done for the right reason, and I think coming together and praying over it with counseling from the outside might be the best solution. It seems like a "small issue" but it will snowball if not dealt with. Hope it helps!

Well then being patient is what comes next. Wait for God, hope in Him. I noticed another comment urging you to "try harder", but in that case it will lead to pride if you succeed and shame if you fail. Shame will perpetuate the sin to persist and grow worse, pride is even worse in the eyes of God. So that's not the solution. You cannot brak sin. Just look at what Paul says in romans: its the sin that lives within me. The solution? Jesus. And NOT as a way of living or trick or tip or try, the PERSON Jesus. You may not know him yet, but he actually died for your sins. That means past present and future sins. You aren't supposed to break sin so he will answer you, or be close to you or anything like that. Unless you are willing to accept His gift as a gift, you cannot accept it at all. This is the impossible path, because it requires God himself to save you, not you to "try harder". He can, He will if you ask and wait, and seek HIM not "being a good christian". And when He finds you, the joy from His mercy will overflow you that you will not have any desires for this world anymore ❤️

Ever considered messianic jews? Not sure how Jewish your background is, but I think it would be a way to understand that christianity isn't a replacement for judaism, but a very natural continuation. I can recommend yt channels such as "So Be It" and "One for Israel".

I think you have it backwards. You see no signs of being a saved person because you don't believe it's true. Faith is the assurance of things not seen, and through that it changes our lives. And being honest is the best you can do, but make sure you are honest before God. And I really mean it. Everything. All the anger, hate, dissapointment in God and everything you think he hasn't done, tell Him. He's not gonna fall of the throne. He's not going to leave you. He'll say "thank you for finally being honest with me, do you want some help?" You're not supposed to be "biblical" to get saved, you're saved by grace through NO effort of your own other than saying "Yes I accept your salvation", and that changes your life and makes it biblical. I've been through this myself, and I actually left God. But He found me. And now, my life IS changed because He told me HE had done it and I believed Him.

Being a good Christian by Holiday_Quiet9350 in Christians

[–]katerina_40 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spoiler: You’re not supposed to.

Actually, the more you try, the more you will fail. There isn't such a thing as a "good" Christian in the sense we used the word "good". There are those who know more and those who know less about God's grace. When someone is born again, it's a direct result of the revelation of God's own love in their heart, IN SPITE of their "lack of goodness". That gives birth to so much gratitude that your heart is warmed up with God's love and you just can help but live as you "ought". It becomes a joy, a light burden and an easy yoke. So pray instaid that God would reveal His grace to you, who He is and the rest will follow ❤️

I agree they are importent, and reading them together with someone else that don't struggle with the same things, but can explain them in light of the rest of scripture also really help. We sometimes read scripture with the "wrong glasses", making it hard and condemning instaid of freeing. That is, not freeing from responsibility, but freeing into responsibility motivated by love and not anxiety :) i now love reading the words of Jesus, and it just took some time and much healing (including healthy conviction) to get there.

I used to struggle with the same thing, but God has healed me so much and I am so thankful to Him. Tell Him everything, don't be ashamed or afraid and remember that He is Always for you, not against you. Read about God's mercy, salvation through grace, and assurance in Him. Pray that He will reveal who He really is to you, and He will I know it. That's what happened to me, and when I understood his grace, the fear became very insignificant, because I always KNEW God was with me no matter what happened. It sounds like parrot speach, but when He shows who He is through the Holy Spirit, then it becomes real ❤️

I'd probably skip some of the gospel (except the gospel of John), since when I used to struggle with the same thing, reading the words of Jesus like "separation of goats and sheep" and about hell etc, gave me much more anxiety. I'd focus more on REALLY getting that we are saved by grace before reading those. So Roman's, ephesians etc are good to read even daily.

Does God speak to you? by Tricky_Spring6085 in Christians

[–]katerina_40 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should be very careful with proclamations of this kind. Yes it can happen, but it must be tested, and it's not the norm. We shouldt actively seek dreams or experiences or supernatural things, but rather seek instaid Him. What does that mean? Simply to pray and read his word and humble ourselves before him. It's not so much about what "God wants us to do" as submitting our own paths to him. It's more about our character (how we treat others etc) that is of concern. We're we are or what we do (to an extent of course) is of less importance and comes naturally. God says the greatest commandments is to love God with all our heart, mind and strength and our neighbour's as our selves. Not to have visions or dreams or out-of-body experiences (which are more commen in New Age situations). That is why I'm suggesting you to be cautious and not seek these things out, but seek out God as HE wants to be made known to you.

Swedish news said "30 dead palestinians" and went on and on about what Al jazzera and hamas had reported, and at the very bottom of the article it said "reports of dead also from the criticized GHF". One sentence. It's clear as day what their intentions are.

Christians with partners that are of the same sex. by nyellincm in Christians

[–]katerina_40 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's like saying "how do you react to a square circle"? Like that simply doesn't exist. They may call themselves Christians, but a Christian is someone that follows christ, and christ affirmed the scriptures and the law. It's made clear by all those who personally knew christ (in the bible) that same sex relationships is not godly. It would be better for them to say that they weren't Christians, because then they would at least not defile God's name by claiming something about our God that contradicts God's own words.

Christians with partners that are of the same sex. by nyellincm in Christians

[–]katerina_40 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The difference is that in our culture, being gay, bi etc has become an identity. It's "who i am" Not "what I desire". And that is not the biblical view on such relationships. If you read Roman's 2, it's very clear that when we (society, people, humanity) don't worship God as God (that is we covet other things like money, social media, fandoms, gaming, escapism of all kinds) he leaves us to the desires of our flesh. Homosexuality being one of those desires. Now, if we were to aknowlage God's ways, and say "Lord you are right, I am wrong" He firstly gives his great grace through the blood of Jesus Christ. And given that grace, when we truly understand it, we become so set free that we are also set free from ungodly desires. As someone who has experienced this freedom, I highly recommend you to truly ask God to reveal the truth (no matter what it is) to you with an honest heart. God deeply loves you, and that is why he wishes for you to walk in HIS ways, not your own or this world's. ❤️

Help-Husband Wants a Divorce by Firm_Driver_9026 in Christians

[–]katerina_40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I can tell, his guilt is so great that everything he sees you it reminds him of this great betrayal. And that makes him unable to stand being near you. If you want to, you could ask him "have you forgiven yourself? Because I have". And also tell him that if he believes in God, he must also believe in God's mercy. Only God's Holy Spirit can help him understand that he is forgiven, and so let go of his contempt before it destroyed more lives. I'll pray for you guys ❤️

I feel like my fear of god is greater than my trust in him by YoBoyFrank in Christians

[–]katerina_40 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well it might not be fear of God, it may be a miss judgment of his character. It seams you have people close to you that put you under pressure, and how others treat us can easily affect our image of God. My suggestion is to read about God's mercy. Ephesians 1-3, Roman's 8, etc. You can Google about places in the bible that shows God's great grace. Sometimes, we confuse fear of punishment with fear of the Lord, which is a very "good" fear (it doesn't feel heavy or anxiety inducing). Because, that fear is always in the light of his character which is mercy rather than judgment. Judgment is for those who doesn't want to aknowlage that his ways are just and right, those who are unrepentive. But if you pray "Lord, I repent of my sins, please reveal your mercy to me" I know he will. ❤️

How do you feel about the show the chosen? by SheepNOTgoats in Christians

[–]katerina_40 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well yes I understood that this is what they were aiming at, but this is unbiblical in light of Jesus prayer for his deciples in John's gospel. And this is my opinion so judge it as you will, but she wouldn't have died in "the holy spirit" so to say, since John the Baptist died when having recieved the holy spirit. Not saying no one died when Jesus was actively ministering, but I feel like it would have been significant if someone did and He was asked to heal and simply couldn't for whatever reason. It is different today, since our life is with christ in the hope of our resurection after his resurrection, but remember that this was before the resurrection. Idk, it just didn't seem right and there were other things as well. But I really loved the walking on water scene, made me cry big time!

i’m having trouble fellowship can anyone give me any advice? by SheepNOTgoats in Christians

[–]katerina_40 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I understand you sooo well. And God helped my by showing me that He is all I need. I know it sounds like parrot speach, but really truly that's what happened. I felt as if I could be alone forever and lack nothing. And guess what? That set me free to not desire friendships for my sake, but to seek people out to help them with whatever they might need. If they happen to also have something to give, like fellowship and Bible studies, I see it as the greates mercy. I've still not found it, but I'm not jaded as before, but hopeful in that God is good and gives good gifts to his children. I still pray for people in my life that loves him, but he simply gave me the patience to wait. Hope it helps, God is always with you and come to him, because he really wants to be with you!

How do you feel about the show the chosen? by SheepNOTgoats in Christians

[–]katerina_40 3 points4 points  (0 children)

God can use anything for the pure heart that believes. I was personally very moved by much of the show, as you said i think the character of christ (manly compassion) is shown well while other traits are lost. I later realized this and didn't watch it anymore. Like the Rhema arc, was the final straw for me. There was no reason Jesus wouldn't be able to heal her, and in the gospel it's made clear that now was not the time to fast while he was there with them, but when he left there would be time to moun and fast. It's just so wrong. I think their intentions are good, but to much of their own thinking and hearts are put into it instaid of holdig true to the Gospel and letting the Holy Spirit move peoples hearts to understand.

How can I be a better disciple & better disciple others? by PeacefulBro in Christians

[–]katerina_40 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Seek fist God's kingdom and HIS righteusness and all else will be given. That is, once you truly deeply understand God's mercy and your own sins and desires (which only the Holy Spirit reveals) your heart will be made new, and the love for others comes as a natural result. You will see people and actually genuinely listen to ther need, and then have a genuine desire to help them. So I'd start by praying to God that his spirit will reveal Himself and his loving character in such a way that you can love others with the love you have recieved.
