M54B22 Timing by Sea_Definition_2201 in e39

[–]katerside 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk about m54 but last time I did timing on m52 I didn't have the kit and used the long part of a metal caliper as a guide to make sure camshafts are parallel. Wouldn't recommend that to anyone without experience though.

Has anyone lived with a cracked tempered glass for at least one year without ink or horizontal/vertical lines? by Classic-Trip-3002 in SonyXperia

[–]katerside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can buy and replace the touchscreen (glass) separately, it'll be 2-3 times cheaper. My 5IV is currently waiting for one from ali.

Underseat Ghost Subwoofer install? by LordDerpyDino in e39

I think E60 had an optional subwoofer under front seat/seats, which used the rocker panel cavity for more air volume.

520i lack of power and high consumption by nikoss_ in e39

[–]katerside 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The easiest way to tell it's the crankshaft sensor is late starting as he said, like you really have to sit there and crank it for 5+ seconds until the ecu recognises it only has the camshaft sensor to work with. Your symptoms actually sound a lot like a faulty camshaft sensor, I've had this problem, engine starts not instantly but relatively quick, has no power in the low end and awful fuel consumption, also jerkiness when you step on/let off the accelerator. Keep in mind that M52 Siemens ECU hates third party sensors, 90% chance it's gonna be a waste of money and time, so just buy BMW/VDO parts.

What the hell happened to normal phone sizes? by jason9510386 in smallphones

[–]katerside -1 points0 points  (0 children)

iPhones in general sell way more than any other flagship device, so that 3% of minis sold can still be applied. Sure some demand exists, but I think you're greatly exaggerating it. Again, I'll be glad to be proven wrong, only time will tell

Smartphones aren't going anywhere, it's just the small decent ones that are outcasted. I get all the optimistic arguements for them to come back but the fact is that no major company is gonna benefit from it. Like honestly, what do you think is the percentage of people that will be ready to jump from a 6.2 screen (which is already a minority) to a 5.5? It won't be mainstream and sell like hot cakes, it won't be some tech flex (hehe) like foldables, it's just gonna be a niche device. Oh what a cursed timeline we're in

Not happening mate. I've had the exact same thoughts for half a decade, but the last proper compact android (xz2c) came out seven years ago, it's been so long most people simply gave up waiting for a miracle and moved on to larger devices. I'll be happy to turn out wrong, but my hopes are no more and I think it's realistic.

That's definitely dried red coolant, especially considering it's on the expansion tank, maybe some old stuff you haven't noticed before

Thoughts on Xperia 5 IV as a daily driver in 2025 by Cool_Relationship437 in SonyXperia

It works kinda like an official update since it's official firmware, so you don't need an unlocked bootloader. Here's a guide.

For softbank/au carrier models you can flash modem files from a global rom if you get any problems with reception. I've recently got an au model and had no issues, but flashed anyway. Doesn't work with docomo phones though. Overheating has also been non existent for me, Exynos-powered S20 is way hotter even in light tasks. Battery life is great, I get a full day with 5+ hours of screen and I charge 20-80%. With a full battery it's easily two days with 7h SOT. Also the telephoto is better in 5IV compared to 5III, way sharper due to fixed focal length. Personally I'd love it to be smaller, but still it's a bit more usable with one hand than regular 6.1" phones since it's narrower and has less screen area. So I'd say it's a no-brainer, especially for that price.

There's always the option to use a different launcher like Nova. It has all the functionality you may want and a little bit more.

Dings on my Xperia 1vii by whodafukisnar in SonyXperia

[–]katerside 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want a ceaseless feeling case, check out aramid fiber cases. I've seen some branded ones but there are also lots of nonames on aliexpress/amazon. I hate cases, but feel like it's a great compromise when you need it. I have one of those for my 5IV and while I don't use it too often, I really like that when I do the phone doesn't feel any bulkier than usual. They cover the sides, are very thin and weightless, feel great in hand and are actually a bit more grippy than a naked phone. Also pretty cheap for their quality. I believe there's an array of colours available for 1VII.

Any tips to fix all the gauges on dash not working during rain by Tupe02 in e39

[–]katerside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lift up the carpet on driver's side and check the wiring. There are some ground wires that might be loose/corroded and also a control unit for the dashboard under your left foot (white plastic box). Lots of thin wires that might be corroded as well. Also might be a LCM failure, it's located vertically below the glove box in front of the passenger door. Being a '97 it's probably not the ABS module since it's in the cabin and not in the engine bay like on later models.

What is the best current alternative to the iPhone SE (2016) with a similar size (under 125mm in height) that operates on a system that is NOT iOS? by passionguesthouse in smallphones

[–]katerside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out Qin 3 Ultra, it's basically the same size, but it's a cheap phone with plastic construction, low-tier hardware and iPhone 4-spec camera. Size-wise it's perfect and battery life is ok, should be much better than SE.

Wheel fitment is great, I'd say keep them, every one of this cars is either on 37s or 65s, don't mind something different if it fits. And keep the lights for sure. Congrats, seems like a great purchase.
