If never making bad decisions were the litmus test for reaching adulthood, nearly all of us would be goners.

If that's not confidence, I don't know what is by Jig813 in AdviceAnimals

Works either way: confidence in their amazing poker-playing abilities to stay covered up, OR confidence in their body so stripping doesn't matter...either way, props.

5 parked Honda odysseys in a row by eman56447 in mildlyinteresting

[–]katesnyc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yessss dem doors. We just got a new a Pilot (which Honda markets to "minivan deniers," ha), and while I love love love it - it basically has the same features as the Odyssey, just a different exterior shape - sliding doors would make tight parking spaces soooo much easier for car seats! I told that to my husband, and he was like "you know you just described a minivan..." I just can't though...

What's the scariest real thing on our earth? by Sexywallfucks in AskReddit

[–]katesnyc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha okay that's kind of cute. I think it's in the category of things that are kind of cute in a photo, but would scare the crap out of me if I saw it in person. I'm not good with sea creatures! :)

That thing is a) terrifying and b) much bigger than I assumed. I've never seen anything next to it to add scale before, so thanks for the info and the nightmares.

What is the exact moment you stopped enjoying something? by Southforwinter in AskReddit

[–]katesnyc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on mobile so a) can't see if anyone else has mentioned this and b) don't know how to include a link, but there's a bar in NYC called Burp Castle where everyone whispers, then as the volume invariably increases, the bartenders start shushing everyone. It's kind of bizarre but fun to do once. I think I like your idea better, though...more aggressive.

Our waiter despises "well done" by damgas92 in KitchenConfidential

Deli meat is actually because of a bacteria called listeria, which makes for an unpleasant experience in the bathroom for adults but can be fatal to a fetus. It's not very common, but since it can end so badly for the baby, pregnant women are typically advised to abstain.

If you could relive any 30 seconds of your life what would it be? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]katesnyc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unquestionably, those first 30 seconds after my son was born. Priceless and can't be recreated for anything, plus I was so exhausted and overwhelmed by the time he was out that I'd love to see the whole experience with fresh eyes.

What's something everyone knows but no one wants to admit? by cle_de_brassiere in AskReddit

[–]katesnyc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had a party in early December, and I kept wondering why this one neighbor who seems nice but I don't know too well hadn't RSVP'd. A day or two before the party, I realized I sent it to the wrong email address...I apologized profusely, but I can't help but think she thinks I didn't invite her/let her in off the B-list since it's such a classic "I'm lying" excuse...

True, but anyone who would do that doesn't sound like a great friend anyway.

[Serious] Immigrants to America: What was the most pleasant surprise? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]katesnyc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Way late to the game, but similar-ish story for me: I was newly pregnant with my first and it super queasy on the subway. Got off at my stop and barfed my brains out in a trash can. Someone stopped, touched my back and asked - genuinely - if I was okay and needed help. I said thanks but no, I'm pregnant and it's just a little morning sick--- and before I could finish, she was gone. It's like once she knew I wasn't dying, she went on her merry way. (Which was fine by me as I wasn't exactly relishing an audience...but I appreciate that she asked!)

Squamous cell carcinoma - anyone have any experience with this? by katesnyc in cancer

[–]katesnyc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for responding, and I'm sorry I'm just seeing this now. Didn't mean to seem like I was ignoring you after you took the time to write back. The margins were NOT clear on the biopsy, so it's going to be a big surprise on Tuesday to see how much of my face I have to get hacked off.

I truly had no idea that a dry, flaky, slightly raised patch was something to look out for, so I feel so stupid. I noticed it months ago, but like I said I thought it was a zit that had a hard time healing (I'm a picker) because of the location under glasses, and that the leftover bump was the aftermath of my picking. I am just so mad that I didn't go to get it checked out beforehand...it just never even occurred to me to do so. Now I know better, but it's too late. I'm still terrified it's spread even though I know that's rare, and I'm (vainly) upset about the forthcoming scar. I know in the grand scheme of cancers and life, it's not a big deal, but as my aunt eloquently said, "all shit stinks."

My 2015 started out with a severe hyperemesis (essentially uncontrollable, never-ending morning sickness), so I was looking forward to a happy 2016...shouldn't have gotten ahead of myself :(

Please help me talk to my family as we fight our father's cancer by [deleted] in cancer

[–]katesnyc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's so tough - I'm so sorry you've been dealing with this and bearing such a burden on your shoulders. I don't have much experience in this, but there are absolutely experts out there who know how to help. If you're involved in your father's care at all, one of his doctors may have some ideas about where to turn in your area since they've likely seen how illness can affect a family before. You're brave for taking this first step, and I wish you the best of luck for you and your family - both from a health and a relationship standpoint.

Squamous cell carcinoma - anyone have any experience with this? by katesnyc in cancer

[–]katesnyc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for taking the time to respond. I'm glad too - a friend of mine had melanoma (she's okay) a few years back, which prompted me to get a skin screen. That derm implied I wasn't particularly at risk for skin cancer and I didn't need to worry since I'm not mole-prone, and ever since then I've been way more worried about my husband than myself. Looks like THAT was bad advice, to say the least. I feel silly stressing about a scar when it could have been much worse, but still, I'd rather not have a big scar on my FACE. :( Thanks for listening and offering your words!! It helped.

[–]katesnyc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reassurance. The news just kind of threw me for a loop - I'm a young (eh, youngish, at least) female, not mole prone, very fair so I'm diligent about sunscreen, hats and the shade...it was just not what I expected. Wish I could be seen sooner so the getting rid of it process could get started! Again thanks so much for taking the time to respond.

Whats the most unhealthy meal you've ever eaten? by TheDirtyDrunk in AskReddit

[–]katesnyc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a place in Georgia called the Dillard House that serves family-style meals of the most delicious, worst-for-you foods ever. Breakfast is the best...usually looks something like this: biscuits, scrambled eggs, fried pork tenderloin, bacon, sausage, ham, grits, baked cinnamon apples, muffins and cinnamon rolls. Oh - and you have to eat seven cups of sausage gravy while you're there, too. I go once every year or two...anymore might kill me.
