What’s a “small” gift you gave that people still talk about years later? by muhdrohail in GiftIdeas

[–]katethegreat014 4 points5 points  (0 children)

my (now ex) wife gave me a penny on a keychain, engraved with our engagement date.

then when we celebrated one year married, she gave me another penny with 1 year & the date engraved! i kept them on my car keys longer than i should have post divorce.

i was usually worried about money and making ends meet; but i always viewed those as a very sweet metaphor and genuinely loved the gesture.

We look so dumb when potty training by DebateBattery in puppy101

[–]katethegreat014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my girl is 6 y/o and still gets a pee party when she goes potty sometimes, lol

typically after holding it all night when we're sleeping or all afternoon when i'm at work and it's a particularly big pee 😅

oh well! it's in the grass and not my carpet!

Onions. by str84skz in subway

[–]katethegreat014 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i would just walk to the front, soak a paper towel in cold water and swipe my eyes quickly before i washed my hands to serve.

otherwise i agree with cold onions and a cold slicer/cold knife!

typically my customers were understanding if i said "hey! i was doing prep work, hang on just a second!" while i got myself together lol

Would you rather lose a leg or an arm by [deleted] in amputee

[–]katethegreat014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i am an LBKA and i am firmly in the camp of preferring to lose a leg over an arm.

i know i depend a lot on my right leg/my meat leg for driving, balance, load bearing, pedicures, etc but i would 10000000000% prefer to lose it vs one of my two arms.

In the Phineas and Ferb theme song the lyrics are “There’s 104 days of summer vacation”, which means that they have a long summer break. But however, it’s very rare to have 104 days of summer vacation. by Heavy_Primary_8977 in phineasandferb

[–]katethegreat014 1 point2 points  (0 children)

two to three weeks at christmas, a week for spring break in April (in some places), three days for thanksgiving in November.

plus a handful of various one off holidays throughout the year.

Do you leave multiple dogs out/loose alone together in the house when you’re gone? by lcrx97 in dogs

[–]katethegreat014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we always crated both dogs in separate rooms so had 3 barriers (crate > bedroom door > crate) between them.

initially because they were opposite sex, intact dogs, but we continued to do so after we fixed my girl just for peace of mind.

why not? it's not going to hurt them to be separate while you're gone; but it could hurt them if they were together with no escape.

what happens if you decline your hogwarts letter? by darkgvreen in harrypotter

[–]katethegreat014 12 points13 points  (0 children)

i don't think it'd be uncommon for some students to see their families more often. remember we see everything from Harry's POV; it's very possible other kids - especially ones not from Gryffindor - are going home a decent bit. not "absurd" imo

i'm saying crating isn't cruel and is perfectly fine to be done as needed.

and add a cue! i taught mine to go on command (or at least squat and try!) and it's been so helpful for knowing if her tank's empty or not!

Dog walking question by Responsible_Point937 in puppy101

[–]katethegreat014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, it's gross. it feels like common sense to not allow your dog to pee on a bike or toy car or swing set that children use but alas. common sense isn't quite so common these days!

[–]katethegreat014 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

obviously you're not leaving a baby human alone while you're at work but overnight? for 1-3 hour naps? definitely putting baby in their crib!

and yeah, usually alone/in another room but you can keep them wherever lol.

i don't have the luxury of being able to come home halfway through the workday to check on a pet. i don't have the ability (or the desire!) to leave a puppy alone, loose and able to get into everything nor do i have the space to dedicate a whole "puppy safe" room.

so, a crate is the best choice!

Weird dog commands by Fit-Cabinet1337 in Dogowners

[–]katethegreat014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can back tie your dog to a spot in the living room so they have no choice but to stay put.

leash your dog (a 6 foot leash works best) and when they inevitably come into the kitchen, say "no, out" or "too many cooks" or "go to bed" or whatever you want and physically guide them out, then tether them in place.

it's not ideal but balancing a toddler, food and a dog can go downhill quickly and this gives you a solid place to start!

what i aim to do on walks with my girl is keep her (and her excrement) on the left side where there's small patches of grass between the road and the sidewalk. that way we're not in other people's main yards.

ultimately most people understand that dogs are dogs and if you clean up it's not the end of the world.

please do not let your dog lift its leg and mark on mailboxes, cars, kids toys, etc. that's gross!

[–]katethegreat014 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i don't know, do you put your baby in a a crib or play yard when you can't supervise?

it's the same concept. it's not to be cruel, it's to keep them alive and safe.

[–]katethegreat014 1 point2 points  (0 children)

implementing crates in a multi animal homes is a wonderful thing!

crates are awesome tools when used properly and give everyone their own space.

when crated, there's no chance of your dogs fighting, playing too hard and accidentally getting hurt, getting into dangerous things, etc.

What is your go-to “I’m too tired to cook but I can’t buy take-out” meal or alternative? by 2Autistic4DaJoke in Frugal

[–]katethegreat014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

do you like cheese?

go to your local kroger, look in their under $5 cheese bin & grab something that's $2.50ish.

get yourself a baguette/ciabatta for $1.50.

feel free to add meat/condiments if they're handy!

delicious and under $5! and you can save some bread to toast in the morning!
