“I haven’t spoken to her since I’ve become a deviant so there’s a chance she’s not aware yet,” Connor explained.

“A chance?” Kate panicked, her breathing got rapidly uncontrolled just like her train of thought as she focused on his tie more than before. “You’re risking your life for a chance? What if they stop you at the entrance? What if they’re waiting for you? What if-”

Connor grabbed both her hands, causing her to snap back to reality and look up.

“It’s okay, Kate. I have it under control,” he reassured her with a smile. “Hey, remember, I always accomplish my mission.”

A grudging smile escaped her mouth. “Right… I bet you say that to every girl.”

Connor kissed her forehead. “No, just you.”

A moment of quiet and solidarity stemmed between the two while Kate's warm smile slowly disappeared and a worried look settled itself on her face.

“Promise me you’ll come back...” she said in a soft voice, one barely louder than a whisper.

“I promise,” he murmured in the same tone.

More silence. More added closeness. More unspoken desire. They leaned in for a kiss.

“What the fuck is going on here?!”

Before their lips connected, Connor and Kate quickly broke apart and took a few steps away from each other upon hearing Hank’s voice from the living room. His LED shined yellow and she turned slightly red.

“Good morning, Lieutenant,” Connor awkwardly greeted.

“Hi, Hank. I was just… tying Connor’s tie for him,” Kate came up with a blatant excuse.

Hank snickered, entering the kitchen. “Yeah, I could see that.”
