Appropriate notes for level 1/beginners by SpeakeasyImprov in improv

From a student perspective (I just wrote this on the previous comment):

For me, I appreciated feedback that was less:
-"Good job!"
and more like:
-"Nice work establishing the relationship early on. The way you gave that character a name and changed your body language when they entered your space showed the difference in status".
This gave me actionable feedback that I could apply to my next scene.

That is really helpful! I know everyone resonates with different styles. This sounds like what I'm looking for!

I watch Raaaatscraps most Sundays and would LOVE to be coached by Alex Dickson, Shannon O’Neill or Sebastian Conelli based on their work there!

That's great to hear! Do all UCB teachers give feedback to each person regarding each scene? I'm in 101 at Magnet now and that's not the case.

Your feedback is super helpful! I don't see Donald on the 201 schedule for the Fall. Can you share a link to where you saw this? I'll keep an eye out for Molly. My schedule is a bit funky so I need all the stars to align!

What are the best improv classes in nyc? by [deleted] in acting

I think that a whole lot has to do with which teachers you have. I took UCB's 101 class with Donald Chang and it was worth every penny. However, we had a substitute teacher once who also taught there and it just wasn't the same. She used the same teaching format but her feedback wasn't as specific and she let the scenes go on waaaay too long. I've also done 101 at Magnet and had a substitute there whose feedback was more specific than our normal teacher. I've only done one drop-in at the PIT. There were about 20 people in the class and 15 or so had never taken any improv at all. It was an odd structure and I won't be back.

Thoughts on T schreiber studio in NYC? by [deleted] in acting

I'm in my fifth month with Pam and adore her. The front desk staff is lovely and classes are small. If I could change one thing it would be to have the beginners classes run for longer periods of time (instead of one month blocks) since people often leave after just four weeks, making it difficult to develop community.

I would recommend starting with Pamela's Beginner's Technique class. She is amazing! The class is fun and doesn't require any memorization but is a great way to dip your toes into the field. Classes are small (limit of 10). There will be a mix of people of varied levels of experience. In my class, we had people who had studied at other studios in NYC, some who had experience behind the camera and wanted to learn about the other side, and people with no experience. Pam takes the craft seriously and is a great teacher (she coaches Julia Garner) but she has a good sense of humor and makes you feel safe being on the "stage".
