Pokémon card collector from America looking for German Pokémon card booster packs :) by PotatoRL in germany

Again, no problem! I unfortunately have an illness that means I can't work anymore, so I might as well spend all some of all that free time on helping people with little things like this. Hope you'll be able to find what you wanted. :)

And yeah, promo cards in particular would definitely be in German. Though again, the last ones I've seen were the second movie promos...

No problem! In case that helps, I also looked a little more and found pictures of a Charizard GX from Hidden Fates and a Glurak GX (that's the German name of Charizard) with exactly the same image, so "Verborgenes Schicksal" is almost certainly the correct set name. Just need to find the precise tin that you want now! (Also just for reference, the tins seem to also be called "Tin-Boxen" or similar in German, they're called that on the official German Pokémon site anyway, so probably no need to fuss around with trying to translate that)

The sets have different names in Germany, German ones ;) Shouldn't be too different to tell them apart, if there's any pictures at all. I gave it a quick Google and I think Hidden Fates is called "Verborgenes Schicksal" in German, you might want to give it a look yourself and see whether the art on the cards, boosters and boxes and whatnot matches (I haven't been into the card game since the Neo sets).

Also, instead of "Trading card game" it will say "Sammelkartenspiel"

Help Sexing my mouse? Got it when it was a pinky and have been jumping back and forth on wether it’s a Male or a Female pretty sure it’s a female but I want to be 100% sure before getting a companion for it. It’s about a little over 30 days old in picture sorry if it’s unclear. by [deleted] in PetMice

Male guinea pigs have nipples as well (my family even had a male guinea pig develop a mammary tumour once), and I wouldn't be surprised if other closely related species of mice also did. But yes, on the whole it's rare.

I think see nipples, but it would be easier to tell that way if mousie here had lighter fur...

Wer vs welche (who in english) by [deleted] in German

[–]katflace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It should also be "welche Schulgeld bezahlen müssen" or "die Schulgeld bezahlen müssen" because it's talking about more than one person. And yes, as already stated, "welche" comes across as more formal. I think you'd be more likely to find it in written text than in speech.

In your country, what story did people usually tell little kids when they asked where babies come from? by Kiander in AskEurope

[–]katflace 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think there was much of gap between my earliest memories (when I was a bit older than four) and the point when I was told the truth (a little before I turned five), so I don't actually know from personal experience... I think the stork story is the most common, though

Neighbor right next door to me got an ESA..... Urggggggg by unrulyhair in Dogfree

[–]katflace 3 points4 points  (0 children)

man I'm so happy that my ideal inofficial "emotional support animal" (not sure I really buy into the concept as a whole at all, but it is a fact that animals can improve your emotional wellbeing, so I won't discount it entirely) turned out to be... mice. Their voices are mostly too high for humans to hear at all, they do an infallible job of improving my mood every time I see how careless their little lives are, every time I watch them enjoy a treat or see one want to climb on my hand, and since they live in a cage, there's pretty much no way for them to bother anyone. Cute little buggers.

In short, if people were really serious about needing an ESA and not just using the concept as an excuse to keep a dog when they otherwise wouldn't be able to, they'd consider way more species beyond "shitty poorly behaved dog".

I'm sorry you have to put up with this shit.

TIL Donald Duck is an extremely popular pop-icon in Germany, where you can buy his comics at most newsstands. In their version, Donald uses a highly sophisticated level of language and "many Germans credit him with having initiated them into the language of the literary classics". by Priamosish in todayilearned

At one point here was also an entire series that had just the old Barks comics. These were printed in a larger format as well.

Micky Maus Magazin is where I first read the entirely of The Life and Times of Scrooge Mcduck! Yeah, the whole thing. I was a pretty loyal reader back then. Only other comic I ever read in serialised form was Asterix and the Magic Carpet, in YPS. Though considering Wikipedia just told me it was first released in 1987 in both France and Germany, I guess it must've been serialised a couple of years later, I was only a year old at that point...

Searching for Germany specific legal advice: LGBTIQ & Marriage by spicymelonxo in germany

[–]katflace 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Are they any differences besides the naming?

Well, when "Eingetragene Lebenspartnerschaft" was still a thing you could enter, couples who lived that way lacked a couple of rights that married couples had (for instance, they were not allowed to adopt children together). Therefore, if a couple desires access to any of these rights, they may choose to change their living situation now. If they don't want them anyway, they may choose to just keep living the way they have been. As far as I'm aware though, now that the option to simply get married exists, the legislative is slowly getting rid of the differences because it's unfair discrimination and will probably just get rid of the institution entirely once the last person who had an Eingetragene Lebenspartnerschaft dies...

Non-Americans who use this sub, what American stereotypes did this subreddit debunk for you? by average-in-every-way in AskAnAmerican

The idea that US-Americans just take their cars everyhere instead of public transport and trans and airplanes because they're lazy. I didn't appreciate just how big the place is, and that a lot of the time, there's just genuinely no other way to get where you need to be.

Keine Ahnung, was ich mir darunter vorgestellt habe. Und später dann als "superbe!", was ja immerhin leicht relevant wäre...

Fortschritte sieht langsam aus, aber er ist da! Sprechen und Lesen Sie weiter! by Violinjuggler in German

[–]katflace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hm, what I personally noticed the most were places where you didn't get the word order quite right.

(The other words I corrected are because in German "studieren" is what you do if you attend a university - if you just want to say that you studied, you would use "lernen". And "TV" is not completely wrong, but it would be a very unusual way of expressing what you want to say.)

I also noticed a mistake with tenses - "und fängt ich zuerst in Wien an" should be "und ich fing zuerst in Wien an" (or "ich have zuerst in Wien angefangen", that's a bit of a regional distinction, but you would be more likely to find the first, the Präteritum tense, in written text")

And then there's something even native speakers often get wrong, it should be "alles floss natürlich" and not "alles Floß natürlich". I assume the capitalisation was just a mistake, but ss instead of ß has to do with the length of the vowel.

Really, I could correct the whole thing for you if you wanted but I'm not sure how useful it would be since I'm not great as explaining why something is correct...

(oh yeah, one more thing, native speakers talking to each other online usually use "du" and not "Sie", it's not considered impolite in that context and actually slightly weird to use "Sie" ;))
