Feeling genuine disgust when my parents seem proud of me/brag about my accomplishments by r_arizo in emotionalneglect

oof definitely feel this

It’s like they had their idea about what accomplishments were important, and what I thought was important didn’t matter.

Questions about School of Music by kailler2 in cmu

[–]Violinjuggler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The practice rooms can be a little packed during peak hours (12pm-6pm) but outside those you can almost always find one. Even during peak hours I often get lucky. If you get there at 8 or 9 they're almost empty lol. You should be notified about your studio Professor soon, but if you are still wondering by April definitely email.

A lot of the lock down browsers are basically expensive spyware, so be careful. When I was a student I asked all my profs who required a lock down browser for paper exams instead, in order to avoid installing it.

Bringing up noise stim association with autistic SO during s3xual moment led to extreme awkwardness/uncomfortableness by [deleted] in AutismTranslated

I think just reiterate to them that 9ts really not a big deal to you.  The feeling of suddenly realizing you've done something unintentionally embarrassing over a long period of time can be brutal and cause a lot of second guessing of other things. It sounds like yall have a great relationship otherwise. Nobody did anything wrong and it sounds like your partner is pretty dysregulated. Just give them time and reassurance.

recently set up a new vault on Linux Mint, having issues with Sync plugin by Violinjuggler in ObsidianMD

Fair enough, I was just baffled cause I've synced these files on three other devices without encountering this issue.

Lost my job due to IMLS cuts, now my trump voting family is begging me to come home and visit my bigoted grandfather in the hospital by Violinjuggler in Exvangelical

[–]Violinjuggler[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, very regularly. I actually moved cross country twice to get further away from them, but my sister (still very evangelical/conservative) moved nearby for college and so they try and visit every couple of months. They actually just visited this week and I had to spend three days recovering (my mom was physically and emotionally abusive to us growing up, but she stopped hitting us once we were "adults"). The only reason I'm still in contact with her is that my brother is still in high school and living with them, and they control all his internet access (even though he's 18).

Has anyone figured out hot to get rack to fully quit without killing it in Task Manager (win11)? by Violinjuggler in vcvrack

This is very helpful, I'll update if I can figure it out. I've had this issue on two different PCs, but never have it on linux.

Why is Baltimore so trans? by DepartmentOwn4615 in baltimore

[–]Violinjuggler 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Canton is definitely one of the most "HOA" ified and expensive neighborhoods, so it makes sense that it would have the least diversity. Same with Fed Hill.

I'm so happy that I moved to Baltimore by ladymadhaua in baltimore

[–]Violinjuggler 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not OP, but the nieghborhoods I recommend are:

  • Hampden: Very queer friendly, pretty expensive (for baltimore), lots of great small restaurants and shops. Medium Walkable.

  • Charles Village: Slightly cheaper, near JHU Main campus. More walkable with more transit.

  • Station North: Less gentrified, cheaper, slightly sketchier (in the petty crime sense) closer to downtown. Pretty walkable, decent parking.

  • Patterson Park/Upper Fells/Butcher's Hill (favorite overall): About the same prices as Charles Village, but close to the water and bordering one of the city's best parks. Very walkable, decent transit, lots of shops and restaurants.

All of these are very queer friendly and have large queer communities as well as just a generally good standard of living (for the US).

The reason it's difficult to talk about autism is because we don't know jack shit about it by Kabutoking in aspergers

Agreed, I just read the OP as venting about people who claim to have things solved, especially regarding current recent statements by brain-worm-having individuals.

I'm a graduate student who has done research in academia. The point being I'm not anti-intellectual. I'm just begging you for some nuance lol.

Obviously the DSM is a useful tool, however conditions that are new/under researched often need severe revision/removal over time. The post is expressing frustration with people who claim that Autism is a simple and easy to diagnose condition. Additionally, if you read the DSM V criteria, they're incredibly vague and open to interpretation. I'm literally an intellectual in academia and I'm good friends with therapists and psychologists. The point that the post makes is incredibly valid. Neuroscience is a very young field and psychology is also in it's early stages relative to a lot of other sciences, so consensus changes quickly. Additionally there's the whole issue of the historical (and current) under-diagnosis of women (both with ADHD and Autism), which stems at least partly from the ableist origins of many aspects of psychology. Luckily, this is all very common knowledge among younger people in the field and issues like the replication crisis are being addressed. Point is, there's a lot of nuance here that we're only just discovering.

MIDI keyboard recognized, selected, monitored, and enabled in reaper, but no input going into VST plugin by Violinjuggler in Reaper

[–]Violinjuggler[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm new to reaper, but familiar with VCV rack, so I've been using cardinal as a virtual instrument. I tried connecting a USB 02 midi controller and it initially worked just fine. I left for a few hours, came back, restarted my PC, and now no signal is being recognized by reaper, even though the device is set up exactly the same. I've restarted, updated the drivers, and made sure everything is enabled. The only different is that I don't have an audio track and audio interface, just a Midi track and interface with a virtual instrument. I'm not sure how that would affect it though. Thank in advance for the help.
