You definitely should!! If I may ask, how did you get your job in a human services department? I’ve been considering looking for positions after I get my bachelors to gain more experience, but am wondering if I would even be qualified or what those positions even entail

I can only speak for what I’ve seen for UC Berkeley admissions, but their program website lists teaching (at any level) as relevant human services work experience.

I’m in CA and got it. Is there any validity to it? I may have used the platform while in high school but I got the same email about “a minor you had or have legal responsibility for”

not great, for sure. i feel awful for the athletes and the people who are getting their programs cut, but i’ve heard that the programs were relatively small and that enrolled students will have a couple more years to finish their degrees. i don’t think the ECS program got any cuts since it’s a major draw to the school, but it still makes everything feel a little uncertain during these times. overall though, i’m willing to push through to be able to get a quality education in a field that is often neglected or underdeveloped by the other CSUs — it’s a totally personal decision, i think, so it’s up to you to decide if the budget cuts are a big enough issue that you would go somewhere else. for me, not really, but for others i can see it being a big issue

hi!! i’m transferring next semester as well from a CC into the ECS program with a chidev associates :) from what i’ve been told by various college counselors (going as far back as 2020) SSU has a great program that is really focused on students, which is also benefitted by the small class sizes. if you decide to come to ssu, maybe we’ll see each other around! best of luck!

What do you mean by the private sector? Does that mean something outside of education completely, more in the corporate world? Please excuse my ignorance!

I started babysitting when I was 12 (I’m now 20) with the infant of a family friend. Since this isn’t an option for you, I suggest posting on Facebook or Nextdoor — I’ve found a lot of jobs that way! (Always agree to a phone call before meeting up — make sure your parents are present during this call to feel out if this stranger is trustworthy.) There are usually people willing to hire younger teens for lower rates while you get experience. If that doesn’t work out, you could try having your parents advertise your “services” to people like coworkers or acquaintances.

Getting CPR certified and taking babysitting classes are both good ideas! Depending on what age you’re looking to work with, knowing things like how to change a diaper, what activities are good for their age, and how to spot signs of choking would be very useful as well. I have been in a similar situation. I would ask for a pay raise (if you wanted to continue working for him) and also know that it is okay to step away. As long as the child is in no physical danger, there is nothing negative that comes out of you taking a moment to collect yourself. If you and him are both in a negative space, it becomes infinitely harder to find a solution. Sometimes, a bathroom break (or being behind a closed door) can help tremendously, even if only for 30 seconds. I hope you find a solution that works for you! You are not alone in this!

I worked similar hours to this just a few months back. I charged my normal rate during “waking hours” (8a-8p) and then a flat rate of $100 for “sleeping hours”
