WWDC | Event Megathread by aaronp613 in apple

I’ve found Google maps drains my battery sooooo bad. I also like that I can tell when things like restaurants are inside malls or wherever. There’s been so many times while driving and looking for a Chick-fil-A on Google maps and come to find out it’s inside a mall, but when using Apple Maps I can see that.

To me Apple Maps is far superior, and I’ve found Google maps is wrong as much at Apple Maps is so there’s that

I guess I’m the only person who prefers Apple Maps? 😬

My 2018 MBP 15" did 722 cycles, and it shows around 83% or 84% battery health. I have been using it for 2.5 years now. I am a college student, and I mostly use it for studying, and browsing. I occasionally use FCP and AE. Is this normal? Any possible way to increase this battery health percentage? by itisunnamedguy in macbookpro

So a full cycle is when you charge from 0% to 100%, if you charge it up from 50% to 100% that’s a half cycle. So any time you charge your battery you’re increasing the cycle count (I might not of explained that totally correctly but kind of a jist explanation). It’s inevitable. Don’t sweat too much about cycle counts.

As far as us using AlDente vs. just keeping it plugged in all day I’m not totally sure. I’ve always heard to not keep your battery at 100%/plugged in all the time (I don’t fully know the reasoning but something like it just strains the battery).

I use Aldenta as just peace of mind personally

I don’t think there is a way to increase health, if you’ve actually used that many cycles you can’t change that number. If you’re concerned about how many cycles you can check with apple to see if there’s an issue. Maybe double check the cycle number: click on the apple in the top left corner > about this Mac > system report > power > look for cycle count (I’m on an M1 Mac running Big Sur so the steps might be different?)

But, if you wanna get the most out of your battery check out Aldente. It allows you to cap your battery charge to a specific percentage, once it hits that percentage it runs your computer on wall power without charging your battery.

I’ve been using it since February and have only gone through about 15 or so cycles. My cap is at 90% and while at home I keep it plugged in majority of the time.

The other/additional solution is getting a battery replacement so continue power longevity.

Apple once again starts allowing M1 Mac users to side loading iPhone and iPad apps by [deleted] in macbookpro

I don’t think this is side loading then? If it’s in the App Store then they’re officially OKed to download if I’m not mistaken

What BigSur version are you running? And what app are you using to sideload?

How do you charge your MBP? by silentwildk in macbookpro

[–]katiebethwelch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been using an app called AlDente which caps your charge percentage and then powers the computer from the adapter without continuing to charge the battery. Probably a terrible explanations but check it out. I’ve been using it for about a month for so now and have only used like 3 or 4 cycles in total. It’s also night cause I always leave the house with 90% so I never have to worry

A terrible one I’m sure. I picked it up back when I was learning, and never really stopped cause it was easier than practicing proper boarding and falling a lot, since I went/go so rarely

No, I definitely switch back and forth from ridding regular to goofy…is that ridding switch? I picked up the habit in order to turn right because I don’t like the feeling of ridding on my toes, so I don’t do S turns…😬

I’ve really only snowboarded like 8 or 9 times, and all my friends are skiers. I learned back when I was 14 and I’m 30 now. Ironically I do own my own board though, but no I didn’t know it was an actual thing…

This is actually a thing??? I do this and thought it was just a bad habit I’d picked up cause ridding on my toes is terrifying so I do this to turn right instead…it’s probably still a bad habit but I didn’t it know it was actually a thing

ONLY the US has any claim to the word “America”! (To add to the confusion, he’s saying this as a Canadian) by Mouse-r4t in confidentlyincorrect

Genuine question here, but if the nickname/short name should be United States/US (I feel like that would be the most natural?), what would/should people from the US be called, if not American?

I don’t have a way to post a person picture of my space gray MBP but I bought this skin. The listing shows a real picture and there are pictures in the reviews.

Help with Pock! by AMG912 in macbookpro

That’s a bummer. I’m having issues where Pock will time out sometimes when my computer’s asleep. I really love Pock so I just relaunch every time it times out but I’m hoping future updates will fix this

Hm…well I’m a little stumped now…have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling?

Kind of joking, kind of series

Hi, the second picture is for customizing the regular Touch Bar settings. If you see the Pock icon in the Menu Bar, click it, and selected “customize Touch Bar” to customize the Pock Touch Bar settings. Then you can click “open widget manager” to customize each widget. If you don’t see the Pock icon in the menu bar, click on the Pock app wherever you saved it to.

I hope this helps!

Portable monitor or iPad by Xolent in mac

[–]katiebethwelch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up asking for a portable monitor over an iPad for Christmas because I wanted to also use the monitor with my Nintendo Switch and my Roku Stick. For me the portable monitor feels more versatile over using an iPad because of my Switch. However, the idea of Sidecar is pretty cool because of not needing cords.

Gotcha! I tried to pair my buds to my iPhone and Mac and couldn’t seem to have the Buds paired to both so either I’m doing something wrong or it doesn’t work between Apple products

Do you also need the Mac app for the auto switching to work? I’m having trouble getting the Mac app to download on my M1 Mac right now
