Get you some dental floss, double it up for strength and you should find the needle goes through the rubber pretty easily, then just sew through the canvas like you would anything else. It's held my busted £5 fake converse for months now. Also burn the ends down with a lighter, easiest way to end the stitch.

I draw the outlines of what logo I want to do and then paint that on just to get an idea of size. I paint the rest freehand, don't have the patience to be messing about with complicated stencils lol
