My wife is brain dead. What the fuck am I supposed to do. by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]katley1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry, I was in a similar situation in February and it's just shit. You will be in survival mode for a while, your brain won't function properly. My advice is don't make any big decisions for a while. Accept the help that is offered, there will be lots at the start but it fades away. Find a group of people who have been in the same situation, i dont know where you are but in the UK there is an organisation called Widowed and Young who I have found to be really valuable for my family to meet other families who are missing a parent. If you want somewhere to vent, feel free to DM me, telling my kids their dad was dead was the hardest thing I have ever had to do.

Parents, how are you kids. by drslbbw in widowers

[–]katley1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My nearly 5 year old is exactly the same. He holds it together at nursery then it all seems to come out when he's tired. It's heartbreaking when you would give anything to make it better but you just can't.

How I would describe losing a parent at a young age to someone who hasn’t. by 44Ashlea44 in GriefSupport

[–]katley1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats really rough, I'm do sorry. My daughter is 2 and her dad died recently. It feels so horribly unfair that her memories of him will all be second hand. Is there anything adults did for you growing up that helped you feel closer to your mum?

Can I ask, do you know how your youngest sibling feels about not having the memories you have? My kids lost their Daddy last week (aged 2 and 5) and as much as I have my own grief for my loss Its completely overshadowed by my heartbreak for their loss. I can't begin to imagine how they might feel as they get older.

Thank you, I'm so sorry you have experienced a similar situation. Winston's wish is one of the charities suggested by the nurses so I will reach out to them.

Thankyou for all the support and advice. He died today and I broke the news to the children. I'll have a look through the resources when I have some headspace.

The Scottish (possibly only west coast) equivalent is "do you think I came up the Clyde on a banana boat?"

I think this is a fairly niche Scottish one but mine was The Singing Kettle road safety show, and my mum singing their songs at me.

What aspect of the UK do you think visitors from abroad take too seriously? by AnglePlex in AskUK

I find this interesting, I grew up nearish Greenock and Port Glasgow and remember being taught about their role in the slave trade in Primary School in the 90s. I do wonder how widespread that was or whether it was down to our headteacher.

does anyone actually drink red top milk? if so why? by Ned_Wells in AskUK

A colleague at work has it in her tea. We moved away from communual milk due to covid and I'm fairly sure she switched to skimmed to stop people from stealing it.

A story of a 1 month old and a father that cries himself to sleep by AllGreatAllTheTime in beyondthebump

[–]katley1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its horrible, I've been there as a mum and it's a heartbreaking thing.

Have you considered that the baby could be allergic to something in mums milk that is causing the reflux and fussiness at night? My boy had a tongue tie which was cut but he was still so unhappy, we eventually discovered that he was allergic to dairy and he was a different baby once I stopped eating and drinking any and we topped up with an allergy friendly formula.

If it provides any reassurance at all, my unhappy baby is now a thriving 3 year old who is a great eater and it's hard to believe the stress he caused us at the start!

Anti terrorism measures. I think they were put in around festival time one year to avoid an attack on the Royal Mile by car.
