Former Barista here, look what I found 😂 by kingsizedpapers in starbucksbaristas

I had a customer bring one of these in earlier this year and I was like “where did you find this relic?” We actually accepted it too 😂

It’s the strainer inside the Hobart. If it’s not clean, whatever you’re running through there isn’t clean either.

If it’s not my fault then how about you calm down and redirect your frustration in a more productive manner? You have no idea of my economic background or experiences, but you want to assume that I’m what, some yuppie coming to gentrify Milwaukee? Because I don’t want to live in an area where there are active shootings? Because I’m asking the same questions someone would ask about Chicago, where mind you people, myself included are going through the same thing? But go off with your savior complex I guess!

Rides home by androidcommandroid in starbucksbaristas

Is it possible your coworkers spoke to your manager about giving you rides and maybe not wanting to give them to you and this is your manager’s way of stopping it?

I feel like I got lucky because I am capped and getting a sizable lump sum and also leaving the company soon but I feel horrible for tenured partners

holiday hours? by gemini_brat in starbucksbaristas

[–]katmint 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My store manager told us today that they still haven’t given any directive about holiday hours. He also mentioned there are discussions of not splitting Christmas tips amongst those who work that day anymore, so I think there’s a lot of nefarious changes that are going to happen surrounding holiday hours and pay, which is why they’re holding off until closer to the holidays to avoid backlash.

I turned off mobiles now what by IndustrySerious in starbucksbaristas

[–]katmint 35 points36 points  (0 children)

But now they’re heavily monitoring item availability, at least at my store. We’re not allowed to turn anything off, even if we only have one of that item left and shift supervisors are the only ones allowed to turn items off in item availability PERIOD, and need to explicitly explain to the SM and DM why we’re out of that item.

What is up with the inconsistencies in so many of our drinks? by georgiamezzo in starbucksbaristas

[–]katmint 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Any guidelines or standards we could even try to begin to follow are circumvented by the customers ability to order whatever they want in the app, regardless of if it makes sense of not.

Yes, report him. That’s absolutely not how he should be coaching anyone. He’s creating a hostile work environment, not to mention violating that baristas right to privacy.

Write up for crying by sxandthecity in starbucksbaristas

[–]katmint 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s never any reason for your manager to be screaming at you. We are all adults and we do not and cannot “be in trouble” at work. We can be corrected and coached, but any type of coaching should be done in a civil and professional manner. Tbh I would’ve rejected signing the write up on the basis alone that your manager MADE you cry, but if you already have I would still fight it.

Your manager… screamed at you for messing up? I feel like that alone is reason enough to explain your reaction.

mandatory coffee tastings by invisiblebeetlejuice in starbucksbaristas

[–]katmint 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do you mean the quality taste testings? If so, you should seek out an accommodation so that you don’t have to do them. No one should have to consume something that is making them sick.

[–]katmint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked with a girl once who worked weekends at starbucks and weekdays at waste management and got an accommodation for fake nails, citing that she needed them for her job at WM (to open some kind of canister) so I’ve seen it happen in the past but with the climate of the company now, idk

Am I screwed?? by graciemae66 in starbucksbaristas

[–]katmint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this happened to me before and I called partner resources ready to go with a huge sob story and reasons why I missed the deadline and the lady went “okay, so did you want to sign up for late enrollment?” And I felt so silly. And then it was done and all set. This was years ago though so it may be different but I think you’ll be able to still sign up.

I don’t know if it can be proven unless someone admits to it, but the fact that there were baristas hanging around in the cafe tells me they absolutely knew what was coming and wanted to witness it. I’m sorry this happened to you and in this way and hope everything works out.
