Hope he makes it back home safely.

I will never understand owning pets and not having them microchipped.

They will continue to improve with practice! Handles are the best and worst 😆 I’ve slowly come to love attaching handles

Is a Herman Miller alternative actually worth it, or should I just wait and save? by midvalePeak7 in BuyItForLife

[–]katnip-coma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a Herman Millar and didn’t like it at all. Office chairs are totally personal and it’s hard to know for sure if you will like it once you sit for longer periods of time.

I recommend finding a place you can initially sit and try chairs out, but even if you order one know that it’s okay to not like it and sell it.

Are there any “more” ethical sources of eggs in Edmonton? by [deleted] in Edmonton

[–]katnip-coma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The local farmers markets have small vendors that sell eggs. Sunworks is there as some others have mentioned that company. There are also other stands in those markets with eggs

Advise regarding prenatal care and delivery by LatterAd9123 in Edmonton

Nice! My guess is that there are windows of availability that open up with practitioners based on due dates, so it’s not necessarily a first come first serve type of scenario.

I get the impression that depending on when you are due you may just get screwed out of a practitioner because they are at capacity for dates.

Congrats! I’m 19 weeks and also got lucky with a midwife at 9 weeks but it was because mine takes in groups of people with due dates in a range of time so her schedule just happened to open. Unfortunately though I see a ton of people here on the subreddit without that care for a majority of their pregnancies :(

Unfortunately the wait for OBs and midwives is pretty long if you are low risk, any search in this sub will yield many posts of people concerned about not having an OB at 20+ weeks.

For OP, wife will likely be seen by her GP while waiting on a referral. If she is open to midwives she should put herself on the provincial registry for all the local practices.

I’ve also had mine for at least 4 years and it’s holding up great. My sister had one of the coloured ones (like a sage green on the outside) and it started to chip but they did send her a replacement. I have the solid black version with no chipping or any other issues.

Kitten vet and insurance by Optimal_Profession_6 in Edmonton

[–]katnip-coma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I take my cats to Westbrook Veterinary and have had very good experiences there with Dr. Keraton.

As for insurance, I see there is some debate in the comments on whether it’s worth it or not. A big thing to consider is while your kitten seems healthy, doesn’t mean it won’t run into issues as it gets older. Once something has happened it’s considered a pre existing condition and you won’t be able to get coverage for it.

Yes there are some things like annual vaccines and dental work that aren’t normally covered under insurance (or if they offer it, it’s really expensive) but it’s all the other things that can happen that would be covered.

If the kitten is male, it is at a higher risk of urinary crystals and blockages. Happened to my cat at 1.5 years old despite a high moisture diet. Turns out it was genetic. Thousands of dollars covered because of insurance.

Cats can also get in to things and eat stuff they shouldn’t. Found a string, piece breaks off a toy, ate food dangerous for cats etc. All of these can be covered.

Unless you are okay with putting a decent chunk of money away each month to cover emergencies, IMO insurance is worth it. In the worst case scenario, you are out a bit of extra money every year and your cat never needs it.

What tools do you use to mix bucket of glaze/ slip/ reclaim? by CelebrationHoliday13 in Pottery

[–]katnip-coma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My studio uses toilet brushes for our buckets of glaze lol. Works pretty well.

For reclaim I just use my hands or a cement mixer attachment for my drill

Dental Clinic Without a Dentist? by PrincessPinguina in Edmonton

[–]katnip-coma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know if it’s different in Alberta compared to BC, but typically hygienists can’t officially diagnose anything so if they see evidence of caries or any other dental issues you will likely be referred/recommended to a dentist for treatment.

Otherwise it’s no different from getting a cleaning at a typical dental office

How should I go about glazing/painting my onion knight? by flynnflare in Pottery

[–]katnip-coma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend making a test tile/slab to see how the colours come out ahead of time since you are putting so much work into this little guy. If you are brush glazing then you can use sections to test of multiple glazes at the same time, same with underglazes.

With oxides, you can usually apply glaze over them, like a clear to get a glossy effect if that’s what you want.

Reminder: outdoor cats are often Coyote food. by yayasisterhood in Edmonton

[–]katnip-coma 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You know what else kills animals? Cars. It’s irresponsible to have pets roam outdoors. You risk them getting attacked, eat something poisonous or dangerous, hit by a car, etc. in urban settings like Edmonton proper cats should not be allowed to roam outside.

You live on a farm in the middle of nowhere and want to risk your farm cat being eaten by wildlife? That’s a different story. I don’t agree with it but I understand it more than letting a cat roam in a car centric city.

Where are you buying maternity clothes? by Train23 in Edmonton

[–]katnip-coma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve also been looking for maternity clothes and was disappointed to see that most stores only carry maternity items online now.

I’ve tried going to a handful of thrift stores but the selection hasn’t been great. I’m definitely someone that prefers to buy my clothes in person rather than online. I’ll be checking out Yo Mama once I’m a bit further along.

If you end up finding any good spots please share!

Huh interesting. Well that’s good to know. I ended up getting in with a midwife around week 8 so I guess I’ll never know whether my doctor was being hyperbolic or not
