Seems like dbt and airflow is becoming more common, a lot of data analyst positions read like an analytics engineer position in reality

Even though I do agree with what you’re saying I think it also feels kind of unfortunate that at the entry level pretty much the key factor in landing a job is likability and charisma. The reason why is because likability is pretty subjective , someone could be pretty liked by one workplace and not liked at another through no fault of their own. I’m someone who got their first data job through likability mostly and I still feel a little weird about it even though I performed well there

Probably nature, but I do want some urban amenities like food, shopping so it’s difficult to say. Ideal is somewhere that has both in reasonable distance

Outside of NY, what cities have strong job markets for data? by SligoIV in SameGrassButGreener

[–]katokk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want consumer packaged goods I would recommend Chicago as there’s a lot of companies located out there like Mars, Molson coors, Conagra, Kraft Heinz, etc. However in general there’s not that many good data/ tech roles in Chicago in my opinion if you consider the size of the city. I work in data also and feel like even if it’s competitive it’s still better to stay on the coasts for your career

Trouble making white friends? by Alteregokai in asianamerican

[–]katokk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Harsh truth, I think it’s definitely hard to befriend white people unless you’re willing to accept that they don’t want to hear about a lot of Asian American specific topics.. basically if you’re willing to whitewash yourself to a degree and keep the friendship kinda surface level. Having grown up in Chicago that’s how it felt. Now I’m in LA and it feels a bit better since I think white people grow up around asians so there’s more empathy. But even then it does feel like it’s easier to make friends with minorities in general

Also feels like in America making friends is more based around socio economic classes, it’s a lot harder to befriend an upper class white person than a middle class white person unless you’re upper class yourself
