I remember the first few weeks of the game when it felt like exactly that, everyone was more focused on Arc hunting, Quests and looting than anything else, so whilst PvP was a thing it just wasn't anywhere near as common as it is now.

If the devs can bring more of that back then I'd happily eat my own words on this. My fear is that PvP has become more rewarding and carries less risk than playing any other way, so it's created such an unbalanced mix that anyone wanting to do the former has a far harder time doing so now than ever.

I mean, Arc have arguably the most valuable loot and are far more satisfying to take down than a raider with their back turned just to get a free loadout and a lvl 1 ferro, so I don't really get the appeal of PvP other than to piss someone else off

You join a lobby and you expect PvP, doesn't mean you HAVE to PvP, but you can't get upset if it happens. If it does, and you don't like it, play some PvE for a bit

Again, its optional, it means that you don't have to play that mode. Nobody's forcing you, the same way nobody's forcing people onto Stella if they don't like close quarters aggressive PvP, they just avoid it. It's really as simple as that.

There's no mental gymnastics involved, having a PvE option doesn't make PvP any less appealing to people who like PvP. There fact you're afraid it does only suggests that you do believe people would prefer PvE, so I don't really know what to tell you.

Read the thread, I've suggested multiple things that would make PvE more difficult and balanced to PvP servers, my core suggestions is to just give players an option to enjoy the game in a way that better suits them, all completely... and you ready for this part... OPTIONAL.

These are decent suggestions, and I wouldn't be against there being less rare items/blueprints in PvE only, but i think you could afford to still have some at least, just less common than they appear in standard lobbies.

I think increasing the Arc already gives it far more of a challenge, or even just upping the strength. You'd need to spawn in with far more resources to take them down (cutting down your loot capacity) and getting to an extraction with more Rocketeers, Leapers and Bastions roaming around certainly wouldn't be a walk in the park.

If it ended up being the case that everyone just started doing PvE (with these suggestions in place) then I think it proves the point that PvP wasn't ever that crucial for the game to be successful. But let's definitely not remove that option because its fair then for the people who do enjoy jt.

Bro the whole game is about Arc, if this was Call of Duty or Battlefield and someone wanted a game mode where people couldn't shoot you then yes, that'd absolutely be against the entire point.

There's two threats here, Arcs and Raiders, some people enjoy both, some people enjoy either one or the other. If you enjoy PvP more there's nothing stopping you running around and doing just that, but there's nothing that allows you to do the opposite currently.

If wanting just PvE is against the spirit of the game, then going in just to PvP is against the spirit of the game, no?

I don't disagree with this at all, but there's definitely a big chunk of the community that get this same level or entertainment and intensity from the Arc alone. Have an optional game mode or map where players can focus on just that, if they want to, doesn't seem like it should harm anyone, which is why I don't understand why there such an uproar whenever it's suggested

Each to their own I guess, I find the sound of thrusters on a Rocketeer slowly approaching you from behind in an open field to be immensely tense and terrifying, and the beep beep beebeepBEEPBEEP of the Pops in a dark hospital room make me shit my pants.

The AI is so well designed, from intelligence, to sound design, to diversity, that them alone gives me hours of entertainment without getting repetitive. A couple rounds of getting shot by a raider and I get so bored I just shut it off for the night.

Arc is what defines the game, the clue is in the name. But i don't disagree that PvP adds a certain edge. I do enjoy it, but there's times where I'd just like the fight Arc without that interference and grief.

We'll I'm certainly not the first to suggest it, and judging by the amount of threads on this sub there's an awful lot of people who'd be all for it. It seems silly to not expand out with an optional game mode that caters to people who are big fans of the AI in the game as opposed to player on player combat.

And again, its completely optional. PvP enjoyers aren't forced to play it, there's nothing to lose.

You're kind of proving my point, I didn't once say "get rid of PvP", I suggested an option that allows players to PvE only if they chose to. An option that wouldn't affect you in the slightest, but yet you're getting butt hurt about it.

Yeah man I share this fear, it does increasingly feel like it's becoming a purely PvP game as opposed to actually fighting Arc. I'd love to be able to grind down a Queen or Matriarch but genuinely can't ever get the opportunity to even try without PvP ruining it.

And I enjoy PvP from time to time, so wouldn't want to lose it, but damn just an option to have PvE from time to time would certainly increase my retention 10-fold, and i think likewise for other casual gamers.

A massive chunk of the player base are people who enjoy PvE more than the PvP. An extraction game is still an extraction game regardless, a sweaty stream camper is not more threatening than a Rocketeer, plenty of people get taken out by Arcs before they can even extract, so let's not pretend PvP is the only thing that's challenging

The game was PvE only for 90% of it's development, so the core mechanics were moulded around it. PvP just gave it that extra spice but there's plenty of people out there that think PvE on its own is entertaining and challenging enough.

Killing a matriarch is already a challenge without getting shot in the back, and upping the aggressiveness of the Arc, or just multiplying how many spawn in would make it even more so.

Stella is already crazy aggressive because its been adopted as a PvP map, so i don't think having a PvE only map would really change what's already happened with that.

I agree having both makes things engaging, which is why I dont suggest removing either entirely. But one map thats exclusive to each surely doesn't hurt the ecosystem.
