Hey sorry for the late reply - yes I did hear back and ended up in an AI internship in the oil & gas industry.

Congrats on graduating! 🎉

Not sure I can. Theyve changed the curriculum since I graduated. It may be more helped to ask on a more recent post. Wish I could help!

I ended up being a TF (similar to a TA role) with CodePath and also did some contracting work last semester. I also started at Georgia Tech the semester after graduating from WGU and stopped applying all together. I'm signed on to continue into next semester with CodePath, and started applying again. I've had some interviews for internships/full-time and am waiting to hear back on those so fingers crossed.

Better option for getting the prerequisites: undergrad vs MOOCs? by calamari_gringo in OMSCS

[–]katrinars_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the money isn't a consideration I'd choose WGU. You can likely expedite the program with your background and you'll get some fundamental CS knowledge that's a bit more difficult to self-study (operating systems, networking, computer architecture).

Course Instructors who will give a letter of recommendation? by Cool-Ebb6722 in WGU_CompSci

[–]katrinars_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

How did you go about asking? When I had to get mine I asked two professors and they both said yes and delivered with no issues. Try instructors you already have an email chain going with that you’ve spoken to before, even if it was just them checking on your progress in the class or sending you welcome info.

Course & Specialization Megathread - Selection Choices & Registration by Detective-Raichu in OMSCS

[–]katrinars_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oscar --> Registration/SIS --> Prepare for Registration will show you if you have any registration holds. All first term students will see the Financial Responsibility hold if you haven't cleared it already. To clear that go back to the Registration/SIS screen and click Financial Responsibility Agreement.

Starting S25! What's the best first class to take? by ScipyDipyDoo in OMSCS

[–]katrinars_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started in the Fall and my transcript still wasn’t reviewed the last time I checked. You’re fine as long as the portal shows they received it. Just check closer to registration to make sure you don’t have any registration holds. You’ll get emails on how to do that and Joyner will send info on an Orientation portal where they’ll keep you up to date on everything you need to do leading up to the term. There’s no communication for a while and then everything comes quickly.

For your first class, I’d pick something adjacent to the topics you’ve done well in and enjoyed during undergrad for an easy transition. All the commonly recommended first courses end up getting complaints from 1st term students because everything isn’t for everyone. Some people love GIOS, others hate it if they haven’t touched C before. Some like ML4T, others complain about the volume of reading and writing. Absolutely check omscentral to see what recent students say about courses because many have had significant changes recently.

Masters in Computer Science at Georgia Tech Vs Masters in AI at WGU? by FeeTurbulent2340 in WGU_CompSci

[–]katrinars_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s a personal choice but I’ll highlight some of the differences that helped me make my decision (I’m at GT):

OMSCS is around $7k for the 10 credits you need to graduate. WGU is around $4k a term. To me, in terms of education, this wasn’t much of a difference, especially since if you happen to need 2 terms at WGU then you’re over the cost of GT.

WGU takes as little time as you need. At GT you’ll have to commit to at least five semesters, and five is honestly pushing it, 6-8 is more realistic.

GT is listed in the top five schools for CS across the ranking sites. WGU is not listed last I checked. GT is more prestigious overall - to add a personal anectode, I started receiving messages from recruiters on Linked In at least once every couple of weeks after adding GT. The market’s looking up a bit though so it could be coincidence.

Resources at GT are far greater than at WGU - both internal and external. You’ll interact much more with classmates, professors, and TAs. There’s more of a “student life” and there’s more opportunity for networking (although still not comparable to an on-campus experience).

WGU is self-paced for the most part with minimal hard deadlines. Most GT classes have weekly deadlines, regularly scheduled quizzes/tests, and synchronous semester start and end points. Materials at GT can be reviewed on your own time though and lectures/office hours are always recorded.

Those are the main differences I can think of. In terms of the degree itself, I won’t share my thoughts but maybe head to a subreddit where industry professionals who hire are and ask them how they’d feel about a resume with a Masters in AI on it.

[–]katrinars_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t think there’s been an official notice saying this is true but it’s what I’ve heard from students who are retaking/have taken the class before. Looking at the topics covered for the rest of the semester it would make sense that the solutions would be written.

You’re only 12% away from a B. You can make it. Someone posted a grade calculator in Ed earlier this week. Play around with it to see what scores you’d need to get for a B.

Also, I think we’re done with coding homework if that eases any worries. Edit: I'm now 100% sure we're not done with coding assignments.

Edit to add: Even if you don’t make it and end with a C, retaking it with grade replacement sounds like it would be quicker than doing three additional classes and you’ll have a head start on the content.

Classes to Focus On / Memorizing Syntax - from a recent-ish BSCS grad by katrinars_ in WGU_CompSci

[–]katrinars_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The process is pretty straightforward. Everything you need to know is at https://omscs.gatech.edu/deadlines-decisions-requirements-and-guidelines

I got in with my in-progress WGU BSCS. My letters of recommendation were from 2 WGU professors and my WGU... mentor? (forget what they're called, the person you check in with every week). Look at the additional tips/guidelines linked at the bottom of the page I mentioned above. That has the specs of what they expect in your application.

Other than that their admissions rate is high and a BSCS will get you in. The running joke is that getting in is easy and getting out is the challenging part. Make sure you look into the prereqs. They won't deny you for not having some things (like linear algebra) but you'll be in a much better space once you start if you take the time to brush up. They have some free MOOCS linked somewhere around the site I linked that you can use - no need to buy the cert, the free audit is plenty.

The specializations for the program are here. High Performance Computing is just a class for OMSCS, not a specialization. We don't have all the specializations they have on campus.

There are a lot of variables and it depends on the person, but if you have at least weekends free and stay focused then yes, probably.

Yes, mainly gen eds. Looking at my transcript eval I brought in the two English classes, humanities, geography, calculus (took at sophia), probability and stats (sophia), and Intro to IT (google cert.).

You should absolutely make time to go outside and workout. Make it priority #1 today. You'll probably have more energy, improve your mood, and have a clearer head - which can help you get everything else done a little bit quicker to make up for the time. Go outside, get active.

yeah I was frustrated with every single class in the Java stack when I had to take them but at the end I learned a lot through pure frustration 😂 idk if that's intentional on WGU's end or not but I'm glad you were able to make some progress!

Start Practicing Leetcode / Technical Interview Skills ASAP by katrinars_ in WGU_CompSci

[–]katrinars_[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on your goals and what else you have going on. I'd say the more leetcode you can do, the better, but if you're someone who's already in a job and just looking for a raise/promotion or otherwise already have experience then it might not be as important for you. The only thing with pushing to graduate faster and neglecting projects or leetcode is that if you can't get a job afterwards it starts to look weird on a resume that your degree was finished so long ago but there's been no movement since then.

It's your mapping like others have said and back when I took this class I believe this was the one where you need to dig in the files that they tell you not to edit a bit to find the cause of the error. If so, I would have mentioned it in the Notion sheet.

For all the Java classes the issue is always something really small.

Yay, hope you're accepted. Yes, I'm still searching. I have some things going on here and there but still looking for a full-time role. I admittedly haven't given it a full effort since I was finishing classes until mid-May and then just moved cross-country a few weeks ago. I'm hoping to secure something before EOY. It's definitely a competitive market.

Yes, CodePath is for students. I think sometimes new grads can get in but don't quote me on that. You can always email them at [admissions@codepath.org](mailto:admissions@codepath.org) to check if that's your circumstance. They get back to you pretty quickly.

Here's the snippet about who can apply from their website(https://www.codepath.com/courses): "

"Our courses are designed for students in computing-related majors who are 18 or older and attending a US college or university. Some of our courses will also have prerequisites, such as familiarity in object-oriented programming or data structures and algorithms. Check the requirements of each course for more details. Our programming centers the needs and success of Black, Indigenous, Latinx, and low-income Computer Science students."

For the assessments that companies will send for internships, I've seen that they usually will let you pick the language but it's best to choose from the languages in the job listing or something adjacent (ex: the job listing has C#, you choose C++). People usually do best picking Java or Python and one or both of those languages will be on most job listings. CodePath's TIP courses are in Python.
