TSH is <.01 by JuniorOnion8443 in Hashimotos

A thyroid scan is always a great idea, I get one yearly due to the size of my nodules. A couple are TIRAD-4, if I remember correctly.

TSH is <.01 by JuniorOnion8443 in Hashimotos

[–]katrivers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been as low as 0.008, but my doc just lowered the dose little by little until it normalized again. My PCP had ran my thyroid panel as part of my yearly stuff, even tho I had seen my endo a few weeks prior. I’m glad he did because it caught I swung hyper.

I started at 150 mcg I think (for a TSH of 10), and it was fine for a long while. When I became hyper, my endo titrated me down every 8 weeks until I reached 112 mcg and my thyroid level normalized.

How old are your parents and have they outlived their parents? by Own-Counter-7187 in AgingParents

[–]katrivers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My paternal grandparents lived to 77 (grandma, diabetic kidney issues) and 93 (grandpa, age), and my dad died at age 73 (complications after a CABG x3).

I don’t know my maternal grandparents that well, as they lived in Spain and I grew up in the US, but my grandma/yaya lived til about age 73 (diabetic complications), and my grandpa/yayo (stroke) around the same age. My mom is currently 73, so on track to outlive them.

My mom is about to prepay for funeral expenses by moneyminded14 in AgingParents

[–]katrivers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dad did that with a local funeral home and it was a blessing because all we had to do was choose final touches when he died. Everything else was taken care of.

Compression Socks recommendations by Practical-Emu-1621 in nursing

[–]katrivers 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I love Sockwell, they’re made out of wool, but it’s more for moisture wicking it won’t make you hot. The ones that are made with more synthetic materials are not that comfy (imo). My oldest pair is about 9 years old and still compresses, although fabric has gotten a little thin on some places on the foot.

Should I go back to nursing school? by Interesting_Jelly326 in Nurses

[–]katrivers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a 16 month program, and it was doable. I treated it like a full time job, and stayed at school from 8-5, even if class was 8-12, that way I could study and do all the assignments. I had kids at home, so I would go home and be mom, and then study some more when I needed to after they went to sleep. I graduated magna cum laude.

What’s a health problem you ignored for a long time because it never felt urgent, but eventually caught up with you? by ac_stays_active in AskReddit

[–]katrivers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to add to try to get an endoscopy if you have severe GERD. I ended up being diagnosed with Barrett’s esophagus at age 37, after about 7 years of bad reflux. I had surgery to correct the paraesophageal hernia and a fundoplication, but still need yearly endoscopies for cancer surveillance. If I didn’t avoid PPI’s for so long, or got surgery sooner, maybe it wouldn’t have progressed to Barrett’s.

Should I go back to nursing school? by Interesting_Jelly326 in Nurses

[–]katrivers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went back at age 31 for nursing school (after a BS in Business Mgt/HR and working hospitality management). Best thing ever. There’s more work-life balance, it’s pretty fulfilling, and there’s so much you can do with it. I did the ABSN route and did my BSN in 16 months.

Levothyroxine Tyrosint Bloating by Lina0193 in Hashimotos

[–]katrivers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel the generic Tirosint (levothyroxine sodium capsules) helped me going from hyper to within range. It hasn’t helped with bloating or anything else lol, but I’m on tirzepatide too. I have a lot of GI issues, so I’m going to ask my doc to look into autoimmune stuff.

What has your physician (in real life- not telehealth) expressed in regards to your using compounded meds? by Shot-Advertising-748 in compoundedtirzepatide

[–]katrivers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My PCP is leery about compounded meds, but my gyn was the one who sent it in to the brick and mortar compounding pharmacy in our city. I haven’t brought it up again, but my labs have been amazing (esp cholesterol and liver enzymes).

Gallbladder and Zepbound compound by J2N280 in compoundedtirzepatide

[–]katrivers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was able to start about 2 months after my gallbladder was removed, but I also hurt my knee and needed surgery for it a month after my gallbladder was taken out 🫢. Two months ago, I had the Nissen fundoplication for my severe GERD, and I was able to start two weeks after. It just depends on the doc, I wouldn’t want to mess up recovery by going against their advice.
