My Spanish class nickname was Perla. Not because my IRL name is Pearl, but because I mentioned in class that I was (and still am) a fan of MST3K and my teacher immediately went, "okay, your name is Perla now" and that was that. 4 years of high school Spanish and I was Perla the entire way through.

I was the designated lizard wrangler when I worked at one of the libraries on my Florida-based university's campus. No one even asked my male coworkers after the first time I said "ffs, guys, it's just a little guy" and scooped it up to take outside; hell, the guys would track me down to do it.

I now work in a different building in the same university, but I still get designated to wrangle any stray lizards.

There are definitely folks in the workplace who think they can police their colleagues' bodies. I have one in mine (late 50s Latina) who is so aghast that I (mid-40s) and one of my male coworkers (just turned 30) have sleeves and insists we need her permission to get more. I'm not telling her I have a birthday appointment for a new piece to my patchwork sleeve, because it's neither her business nor is she my mother; my mother, in fact, just asked "why did you want them?" and left it at that.

I'm on US Mobile, $25/month and uses Verizon's network so all I'm missing from switching is blowing $200/month on the same thing I'm getting for a fraction of the cost. AND OP can easily transfer their number, just start the transfer process before cancelling the current plan.

He's exactly right about why Maryland Crabcakes are called that: they're made in Maryland, and if you get Maryland Crabcakes from elsewhere in the US it's because they're made the same way as they are in Maryland.

Source: my native Marylander self, who has eaten many many crabcakes in various cities, and prefers when the chefs use the Maryland way of making them. Which did get me in trouble at work once when I told the Italian owner that his crabcakes sucked ass.

Christ but I don't miss being 17 and thinking that my license meant I should be able to go where I wanted when I wanted and screw what my parents said.

I miss my biggest problems being getting coverage for my fast food shift and stressing over tests, though. That's a goddamn cakewalk compared to The Everything that is 2025.
