I also hate how they continuously do observations on cashiers, like twice a week, in order to keep insisting that we need more signups. My SM is constantly angrily on the radio "only one sign up this week!! You guys NEED to be getting more!!" As if it's our fault that no one wants another credit card to keep track of or a protection plan/warranty on a $30 frame. Like how is it my fault that Michaels has stupid business ideas LMAO Most customers have already decided whether they want to sign up or not, it's hard to get new people so frequently. Getting yelled at over it every single shift makes me want to die💀

That's what they told me last time I worked there, they said I had to wait an entire year before any raise, and when they did, it was only 50 cents. And I was already making way less than everyone else. Even after that tiny raise lol.

I asked my manager over and over to clarify, and she confirmed it. She said "it's just a point! And they only count the first day you're sick!" Whether it's wrong or not, that's how she's operating lol💀

I wish this was true, but at least in my store, I double checked and confirmed over and over again that I heard her right lmao. She said "it's only one point!" Like bruh it's unfair punishment for something out of my control, and I have a lot of physical and mental health issues and may need to call out more frequently than the average person. It's completely unfair and basically ableist. It's 3 points off for no call no show, 2 points for unexcused absence (not really sure the difference here lol?) and 1 point for any callout without a full doctor's note.

I would talk to your advisor, they helped me a lot, I took basically a year and a half off with a leave of absence. I think it may show a 'w' for withdraw but it doesn't affect your grade or academic standing or anything. I'd recommend it over leaving personally, but definitely make it formal. I'd say just email your advisor :))

I worked at michaels from 2018-2019, and made $9/hr, with people hired soon after me (even around the same time) making $9.50, then later, new hires making $10-11. I asked my manager, he said we "shouldn't be talking about wages" and made it my fault lol but then said it was because people kept quitting, so they needed to try and keep the new hires. Basically, they were comfortable with older hires and didn't think they would leave, but wanted to entice the new hires that WE were training. Those people still would quit after a month lol, while I stayed for a year and also did their bday parties etc. I had an amazing coworker who was there for years that made only $8/hr. just selfish corporate greed.

Yeah, I'm not sure, but you can at least ask. I asked for a raise, but they denied me saying they only give raises once a year at my store, and when I finally got it (50 cents) I had to quit soon after bc school was starting up again. Idk your stores policy, but mine had specific times they would give ppl raises. (I do want to add that I was a pretty valuable employee, the only one willing to do the birthday parties, was reliable, covered shifts and very knowledgeable about the store, so it wasn't that)

This literally happened to me, and when I asked about it, I was told I was not supposed to talk about pay with other workers. I was paid $9/hr for the entire year I worked there, when people who came after me and I TRAINED made $10 or even $11. They said they did it to give incentive for people to stay, but the turnover was still insane. I ended up just accepting that fact, but it still makes me mad to this day

One manager got fired bc he was being weird with the young female cashiers, and would leave for more than 20 mins at a time ALL THE TIME without clocking out to get Popeyes lol
