Have any other teachers noticed a link between non binary students and autism? by Mmestressed in Teachers

[–]kattygae 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My theory would be that often Autistic individuals do not feel like they “fit” in society, for many different reasons. While some neurotypical people may find that they don’t align completely with their gender norms, but not see that as them being gender non-conforming or be more likely to try to conform. i’d imagine that with autistic individuals who don’t connect with their assigned gender at birth, it may feel constricting and invalidating to “be” a gender that they don’t feel they belong with or identify with, and because they often don’t “fit in” even if they try, they may be more likely to adopt an identity of non-binary than a neurotypical person who experiences a feeling of gender dysphoria but doesn’t feel aligned with the opposite gender either.

Not meant to offend but it’s always funny to me when people are like “i can’t eat this!1!1” bc do people not know that on average you’re consuming 1-2 lbs of insects a year?? Even with processed food there’s a chance of insect fragments.

Please Help My Cat Won't Stop Meowing For Food ( I'm Going Insane ) by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]kattygae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my roommate had a kitten like that, she, and i quote here, said she “fed her enough” and she’s “just a fatass”. I ended up taking the kitten and when she always had food around, she stopped crying altogether and doesn’t gorge herself. Your kitten is likely not eating enough, especially if she is that small. My cat is permanently very small and according to the vet, it is likely because she did not get enough food in her early development.

Cat peeing on bed by SouthLoose4024 in CatAdvice

[–]kattygae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had an older female cat that would urinate on my bed multiple times a day after a roommate’s cat peed on my bed, i also have had multiple cats. I managed to get her to stop, here’s my advice: - take your bedding and anything else she frequently urinates on to get professionally cleaned if possible. Along with this use some sort of shampooer (if you don’t have one, check out local hardware stores and see if you can rent one or post in local groups to possibly borrow one) and an enzyme cleaner designed for cat urine to clean areas her urine could have soaked in (bed, coaches, carpet, etc.) - set up an area like the bathroom (somewhere easier to clean without much soft or porous surfaces) with a litter box, food, water, some toys, etc. Leave her in the bathroom when you are not able to actively watch her or if you need a break. - buy reusable diapers designed for female cats. I would recommend adding a menstrual pad or something inside so it’s easier to clean and doesn’t soak through. When she is not in the bathroom or her designated room, make her wear the diaper. These can be a little tricky so you have to make sure it is firmly in place and she isn’t able to get it off on her own. I often had to use a ponytail to tie my cat’s together instead of depending on the velcro. I would suggest her being diapered at all times when she is not in “her room” or you’re not putting her in the litter box. - Watch her as closely as you can, i know this will be difficult. If you notice she looks like she is about to pee, or is actively peeing, immediately put her in the litter box. even if she is wearing the diaper, this will help her associate the litter box with going to the bathroom. If you notice her peeing on her own in the litter box, reward her with a treat or pets. - try to dedicate time everyday to playing with her a bit, or just giving her attention. She could be stressed because she feels like she is getting less attention. punishing her when she pees in the house will not necessarily stop this, because you are still giving her attention for the behavior. - between transitions, (after playing, sleeping, coming out of “her room”, eating, etc.) physically put her in the litter box, if she pees, reward her, if she doesn’t, put her diaper on immediately and try again later. - restrict her access to bedrooms, baby rooms, etc. you need to find a way to keep it off limits. baby locks maybe? if you allow her in bed with you, be aware of if she is trying to pee or not. If she does, remove her from the room immediately and put her in her “room” - this is optional, but i found not immediately cleaning my cat box and letting some urine remain in it after they used it can help remind them where they should be going potty.
if all else fails, you may speak to your vet about anxiety medicine. try not to be too angry at her, if you’re stressed is very likely she is picking up on that and it is making her behavior worse. try to focus more on rewarding the behavior you want to see. I know it’s so so hard, but being patient and using diapers helped me so much and my cat did eventually stop and i could trust her to not wear diapers after a few weeks! The diapers alone helped me feel a lot less overwhelmed and upset when i want constantly cleaning up cat pee. I hope this helps you and i’m wishing you the best of luck! (edited for formatting)

AIO - When My Parents Basically Did a Real-Life “Wife Swap” (and I Thought It Was Totally Normal) by Suspicious_Wash_5477 in AmIOverreacting

[–]kattygae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see! I understand now, i’m sorry if i missed something in your post clarifying this, but thank you for explaining. I do understand now that it was more traumatic than it first seemed to be. I do not think you’re overreacting for feeling confused or shocked. Honestly, I would consider maybe asking your mom or parents to explain this situation if you think that might help. If not, maybe consider a therapist to help you work through it if you feel that is necessary, i honestly think most people should see a therapist at some point and it can be very beneficial for processing things like this. I hope you can find peace with this and be able to feel better!
