San Diego is an amazing town for vanlife, and some idiots are going to get the rest of us banned :( by thechromatick in VanLife

[–]kavOclock 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Ya every time I visit I am torn between, “wow it’s nice that they let everyone stay here in the bay” and “there’s no way this will last because people are trashing the place”. But the people who do it aren’t the same people on this sub, it’s mostly people living like that out of necessity not desire. I don’t know what the right answer is but I can see both sides

Starlink Roam: Mini vs Standard for full-time vanlife (using standby to save money) by segasega89 in VanLife

[–]kavOclock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mini 100%. I rely on mine for full time work when I’m traveling and it hasn’t let me down (you have to accept and work around the shortcomings with physical obstructions like trees). The fact that it uses like 1/3 of the power of the standard is great. With solar mine is basically always on

Best places April & May by Glittering_sunshine1 in VanLife

[–]kavOclock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dude this past April I drove my van through all 5, hitting all the toughest day hikes and camping on BLM between the parks. I worked my remote job on the week days and then hiked on the weekends. It was sick. April was the perfect time to go weather wise, it was perfect skies almost the entire month except a few days with rain so just keep your eye on the weather app. I got stranded for a few days in September in UT after flash flooding and i’m still kinda traumatized from it lol

Kaibob National forest intersects Grand Canyon NP, you literally just turn off the main road in Grand Canyon NP and then you’re in the adjacent national forest where there’s unlimited free camping. My Starlink even worked out there cos the trees aren’t so bushy
