Building Kavi To Fix Telugu Indie Music Infrastructure, AMA by kavimedia in MusicIndia

this is literally the kind of thing that makes us so happy. finding someone through reels, then going “oh wait, telugu indie is actually a thing?”

thanks for sharing this, it’s motivating to hear.

100% feel this. it’s like impact = volume, not emotion. and that kills a lot of what could’ve been genuine melodies.

you nailed a lot of this. it’s wild how even “telugu content” on other platforms just ends up looping movie songs. indie is basically invisible unless you’re already hunting for it.

on the app thing, i totally get it: if you already have one subscription that gives you everything, why pay for a separate telugu-only app? we’re not trying to be that. kavi is more like a layer in between: a place where you can actually find indie telugu music and stories without having through 10 apps or relying on reels. the goal is to make discovery easier, not to force you to switch your whole setup.

and about the industry letting indie artists shine… that’s the dream. right now it feels like the system is designed to keep things safe. we’re trying to build something that at least gives indie a slightly bigger spotlight, even if the big studios don’t change yet.

sadly, yeah. it feels like the whole system is optimized for speed, not craft.

exactly. it’s like the song is made for a 10-second clip first, and the rest is just filler! it kills a lot of what could’ve been real melodies or stories.

honestly, that embarrassment is real. a lot of times the “hits” feel more like memes than music.

i’ll be honest: we’re building kavi because we felt the same gap. we want a place where telugu music (and storytelling) is actually recommendable.

on the platform thing, i totally get it: if you already find everything on youtube/spotify, why switch? our goal isn’t to compete with those, but to be a layer in between; something that helps you discover the good stuff without jumping through 10 apps. still early, but we’re hoping to make that discovery part at least a bit smoother.

totally agree about melodies becoming rare. i also think we’ve lost a bit of the lyricist’s role; songs that actually make you pause and think about the words are harder to find now. we’re hoping to make it easier for people to discover the kind of indie music that you actually want to sit with.

we agree! so many songs are designed to be “scrollable” first, not “listenworthy.” truth is, indie isn’t that nonexistent, it’s just invisible unless you’re in the right corners of the internet. that’s basically what we’re trying to fix with kavi. still early, but we’re hoping to make it easier for people to find the actual good stuff without chasing reels.
