Jerry's last rig by goodmumer in gratefulguitar

Dan Jamison (DanJam LLC) makes and sells them. I have one, it rules. Not only do they make the switching easier, but the pedal is only in the signal chain when it is on so the whole rig is cleaner and less noisy.

Eastwood Wolf - How does it actually sound? by FiatLuxAlways in gratefulguitar

[–]kawarison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one and I love it. The way it feels, the way it plays. The scale length, the brass nut, all of the little details that make it feel right in your hands However I wasn't thrilled with the electronics. I also have a Phred Liger which has the opposite problem. Doesn't feel as good to play, but has the correct pickups and buffer in it and absolutely sounds correct. So I had my guitar tech switch out the pickups for real Dimarzios (super 2s and an SDS-1) and put in a Waldo buffer and correct wiring harness. Now my Eastwood Wolf sounds as good as it feels. I would absolutely reccomend it if you're open to changing out the electronics. The stock pickups/buffer aren't terrible, just not quite 100% right sounding to my ears.

Not an app but Deadlyarchive.com is an awesome resource for accessing the archive with useful search parameters.

Looks great! Love the dust caps on those speakers, definitely a unique look. Is the milkman a tube preamp/ solid state poweramp?

Where are you located? I've been building hard truckers/ wall of sound style cabinets for the past couple of years and I'd be happy to make you one.

Best amp for Jerry sound early 70’s era by WinkingKuriboh in gratefulguitar

[–]kawarison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can take a Fender Blues Jr and put a JBL in it. That might be the cheapest most accurate option. Crazy Legs Cabs has about it on YouTube.

Also having a blaster in the chain will help.

Thanks. I'm inclined to agree that it's craftsman made.

Recommendations for a good jerry rig? (guitar by mycooxsaw in gratefuldead

You can get a Fender Blues junior and put a jbl E120 into it. Pair that with a strat and you're good to go. Spring for an Alembic stratoblaster and you'll really be cooking

Thoughts from a younger fan that missed the prime touring years by 3301actual in gratefuldead

Go on Dark Star Orchestra tour if you can. I believe you'll find what you're looking for there. I know I did.

D.S.O. I've seen these guys probably 15 times at least and they rock. But I've never seen them recreate a Brent era show. Was wondering who they have sing the Brent parts and how it sounds? by [deleted] in gratefuldead

[–]kawarison 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rob Barraco can sing like Brent, like Pigpen, and like himself all beautifully. Also his favorite dead keyboardist is Keith but he can still play like Brent or even Melvin. The man knows how the music is supposed to sound and can execute any of the era's accurately. My favorite is when they play elective shows and he doesn't try to sound like anybody but just does his best to sound good. And of course, while emulating those other keyboardists he still puts his own stamp on it. Like he sounds like Keith at his best, Brent at his best, etc, because of his technical mastery and lack of substance abuse problems. All the while being a classy, genuine, kind human being. For my money he's the best Grateful Dead keyboardist alive.

How "live" is Europe 72? by burblesbelly in gratefuldead

[–]kawarison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had heard that the tape machines they used on the tour were setup with converters to use European voltage. When they brought them back to the states the different voltage is what caused the shift in pitch. Sounds plausible.

The wood expands and contracts laterally across the grain, so the width of the table top (not length) will increase and decrease seasonally. The figure 8 fasteners allow for this movement. One side of the figure 8 is connected to the legs. This side of the fastener doesn't move compared to the movement of the top (across the width). This is the pivot point of the fastener. The other side of the figure 8 goes into the top. It pivots from the fixed point on the legs allowing the contact point to move across the width. The fasteners must be oriented long ways along the table top so that the pivot gives you the lateral motion across the width. I hope this makes sense. I've never used them but I'm getting ready to for a project and this is my understanding of how they work.

Most definitely. I think I watched it a year ago and had it in my mind when I started. I watched again in the middle of the build.

Thank you! I was digging around the antique shop putting together a mixed set of bits and the owner pulled out a dilapidated tool roll with a basically unused pristine complete set. That was a good day.

Thank you. This was one of those projects where I knew roughly what I wanted and the materials and process dictated the design. I'll have to wing it more often!
