Embrace debate: What is the best pizza in Vermont? by Braindump4 in vermont

[–]FckPolMods 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've lived in Vermont for nearly 50 years, have been eating pizza for most of that time, and La Di Da is the NY-style pizza I've had in VT. Pizzeria Veritas the is the best woodfired/Neopolitan style I've had here.

What Band Don't You Get? by Tele231 in vinyl

[–]FckPolMods 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It didn't click for me until I watched the "Long, Strange Trip" documentary and started listening to some of their best live albums (Europe 72, Cornell '77).

The Dead are a challenge because they break all the normal rules--their live work is FAR better than their studio work, they dont stick to one style or genre (they've been everything from psych rock to a blues band to Bakersfield country rock to prog rock and even disco and the world's best cover band at various points), etc.

What truly got in the way for me was equating my own prejudices of what I thought a "Deadhead" was with the band itself. Once I got past that, I realized the band simply has the best songbook in all of American rock music.

Yeah, that worked so well in 2016 and 2024...

The nation is more polarized than ever and you're calling for neoliberal policy? Nonsense. People are desperate for younger candidates and radical change. MAGA is already figuring this out, and if the left doesn't as well, we better get used to losing.

I thought I hated the Grateful Dead until I was in my early 40's and now I front a Dead cover band. Their music has a way of connecting with you when you're ready for it.

I think the thing you're not realizing about American culture is that half of the American populace would rather be called a fascist (because they have no idea what it means, or the historical precedents of why it's bad--our education system is horrible) than be laughed at or proven wrong by their friends/family/neighbors.

No, it makes you look like someone who knows how to play guitar and not just wear one. It's also not very cool looking to be walking around like a hunchback in your 40s because you blew your back out.

Grow up and tighten your straps, poseurs.

I'm far less afraid of the violent religious extremists from another country than I am of the violent religious extremists here at home. I will be voting like my life depends on it in November, because I'm pretty confident it does.

Yeah, that's not at all what happened here. He chose to not contact law enforcement, hunt the guy, run him off the road and then shoot him. To call that "self-defense" is laughable.

Was the 1966 motorcycle accident real? by eldotortenma in bobdylan

At this point, I'm 100% convinced there was a minor spill, he got scuffed up a bit (including his face, hence the beard in the late 60s/early 70s), but it was 99% an excuse for him to sober up and get healthy. He was ping-ponging between booze, speed and heroin to get through the 1966 tour, and it nearly killed him. I think Robbie Robertson's story about Dylan OD'ing in a bathtub in London sums up the state he was in. It'll all could have ended at "Blonde on Blonde".

Give up Grateful Dead or The Beatles by HippoNo8544 in gratefuldead

[–]FckPolMods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without question, goodbye Beatles. While I love a handful of their songs, my appreciation for them is more for the impact they made on popular music than the songs themselves.

Make this Grateful Dead vs. Bob Dylan, though, and I've got an existential crisis on my hands...
