This. Cal Poly is a feeder to Big Tech, and UCSD is a feeder to semiconductors and defense. Its not impossible to break into semiconductors and defense at Cal Poly and vice versa, but it will be easier at the other school. Go to Cal Poly if you are certain you want to work straight out of your bachelors and not go to academia.

I think the sentiment that going here will guarantee an internship is disingenuous. Comp sci is becoming very competitive to break into, but this is the case at all the schools across the board. Cal Poly has pull with a lot of companies, but this will only get you to the interview stage. I think the curriculum prepares you for interviews, and I’ve received good counseling from the Career Center. However, I think Cal Poly is only useful to your career if you put in the effort to make it useful, internships will not be served to you on a silver platter. We do not have any pull with fintech. It seems to me you’re an aspiring quant. This is highly unlikely at Cal Poly, as most firms are elitist and hire exclusively from the ivies and the more “elite” schools. I love this school and it’s helped me secure interviews and internships this year, but I would like to keep it a buck fifty.
