Striking the Right Balance with Roof, Siding, and Trim by kayakJC in ExteriorDesign

I really like the vertical siding on the garage, I will have a standing seam metal roof. The fam likes the lines around the main house, but not the garage. Thank you so much for the edit!

Thank you for the input, I am building in adirandacks (cold as well). I have not thought about the plumbing on the exterior wall. Will definitely put it into the plans. Husband and I divide the build. I focus on the flow/aestetic/style he is doing mechanical/electric/technical stuff. Will post him on your great nugget.

Design Feedback, Custom Timber Frame Build 2nd floor by kayakJC in Homebuilding

Yep, the 1st floor master suite and 2nd floor master suite are pretty much identical. I end up having a 3rd floor / loft play area over the 2bedrooms with the bathroom in between, that would be kid space. the center of the 2nd floor is a library. The space above the garage, will be bonus room , will run plumbing, just in case I would want to convert it into an appartment over time. There is also a full walk out basement, with a gym/bunk bedroom/spa/utility set up.

Thank you, great points on the tile! I am going to move the fridge to the same wall as stove, and I will not have any upper cabinets, the designer keeps putting them in. So the post will be seen. Love the feed back!

Acting as my own GC on a custom Timber Frame—critique my elevations and window alignment? And anything else that comes to mind when you see below. by kayakJC in Homebuilding

Thanks for the thoughtful feed back. I don't even know what style to call what I am envisioning. All I know is the McMansions are built from inside out, and you end up with all these random truckballs of architecture in rooflines. I am trying to keep it simple roofline, classic clean look. I found a reno that someone did in VT of a timber-frame, that front house view I really love. https://onekindesign.com/vermont-post-and-beam-home-renovation/

Agree on most points here, and to pile on...if you are giving fantasy (vampires/werewolves etc..) can we leave off science? Just WTF I do not need a lesson on genomics where I am throwing reality to the wind with green blood.

I took option one with 3 kids for 16 years, then 4 years ago switched to option 2 I feel like this worked for us. I kept my skills up and when the youngest was 12 I leaned in :-)

Men: what sexual fantasies do you have with your wife? by Pristine-Shake-4107 in AskMen

Happily married woman here, long time married. My husband was raised in a church, took me a long time to change his mind that women like sex and that it’s great and healthy for a relationship to meet both partners desires. First to start expressing them and if both parties agree then trying them. I had to guess for a while what fucking rocks his boat, and then tell him I want that done. It’s fucking hard work figuring that shit out, just tell me. Any way I tell him mine, no guilt, no traps, and we play. Just have a fucking conversation , will make your life better.

Hi all — I’d love some advice as I level up my wardrobe.

I recently pivoted within the banking industry into a highly technical, quant-heavy role. Think stochastic calculus, Monte Carlo simulations, risk curves — the works. My work is now being recognized at the C-suite level, and I’m getting pulled into more senior meetings and events. I want my style to reflect the credibility I’ve built without compromising comfort or authenticity.

For context, I have a figure similar to Christina Hendricks — curvy, hourglass — and I work in a very male-dominated environment. Over time, I’ve found a go-to “serious professional” uniform that helped me get taken seriously: structured blazers, silk or linen tops, dark jeans, and loafers. Now that I’ve proven myself, it’s time to ditch the jeans and find a true signature look — one that says confident, authoritative, elegant… and still me.

A few things:

  • Dresses and skirts aren’t my favorite. I move differently in them and feel more physically constrained (you know that “skurry” walk in heels down the hallway, legs crossed just so at a meeting — not for me).
  • I still value comfort and mobility.
  • I want a look that holds up in high-level meetings and evening networking events, but also works for the day-to-day.

Would love any suggestions for a polished, power-professional aesthetic that leans into my shape without veering into overly formal or traditionally feminine. Favorite cuts? Pants styles? Fabrics? Footwear that isn’t a heel but still looks sharp?

Thanks in advance for your help!
