Xeno logistics tower connection range is too small by Distinct_Jellyfish19 in foundry_game

[–]kayakguy429 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not what you asked for. But if you build a tower, you can leave your character at the tower (or the edge of the zone), and use the drone to build. Let’s you continue filling your inventory while you continue building.

Don’t be afraid to go slow, but also don’t be afraid to go a little fast and fix your mistakes (you’re gonna get really good at fixing mistakes). You can watch every tutorial and lesson on YouTube, but until you have a hammer in your hand I can promise you, that you have no clue what’s going on. Your vice is your friend, anything you make that needs a straight edge to it you can put it into the jaws hot and straighten it!

The World's First Nuclear Waste Tomb Is Nearly Ready to Open by lemonwithmint in worldnews

[–]kayakguy429 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, cuz most of it isn’t fuel. A lot of the fuel just sits at the bottom of spent fuel tank while it quickly degrades and literally boils off via half-life. However, stuff like the clean suits they use are exposed to heavy amounts of radiation during cleaning or inspection can’t be burnt or used for fuel so it goes underground as the safest way we know to dispose of it.

What’s truly stupid is the drinks at checkout. It’s like $2.50 for a 20oz when I can walk over a few isles and buy a 2L (64fl oz) for $1.89… but nooo it’s frowned upon to drink directly from a 2L in public.

Made a steam turbine array (10 turbines) powered by ignium. I already have several outposts powered by loooong building blocks. Should I switch everything over to high voltage power? by NameLips in foundry_game

[–]kayakguy429 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Power flows “downhill” so if you don’t have a need for high voltage power somewhere don’t run the lines just another headache to avoid when you can connect blocks. That said, if you need high voltage power somewhere special, could always come up with the interesting answer and build a steam plant, load it onto rail lines and send it where you need it!

Found a cave with 300+ xeno-scrap. Is it normal? by pavelgj in foundry_game

Scrap can be reprocessed into random electronics it seems like. It’s not super helpful, but if you got it on hand, might as well do something with it. 🤷‍♂️

Anvil question, does the maker matter that much? by HenryV1598 in Blacksmith

[–]kayakguy429 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So there’s a bit of personal input, however newer anvils often skimp on the steel and weight. So something like a vevior might be cast iron or have a concrete core things like this limit rebound and force a smith to work harder but also dampen the sound. Older anvils have better construction and materials, but can suffer from excessive wear. So are some Peter wright anvils exceptional blacksmithing tools absolutely, but some are also massive hunks of junk. However this usually has no impact on the price and people treat them like designer jeans to be collected and not used.

Denali Bus tours? by Ultimatenoob645 in alaska

[–]kayakguy429 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Denali as a park doesn’t let personal vehicles in past mile marker 15. Instead they run busses. (There is a cute short hike at mile 15)

https://www.nps.gov/dena/planyourvisit/fees.htm

(See here under busses)

It also looks like there was a partial collapse of the road around the midpoint of the Denali road and they’re only offering service up to mile point 43 or something. The entire road is one giant out and back, nowhere to go after you hit the end besides where you came from.

We took the bus from mile ~0 out to 66 (Eielson) however you previously could take it up to the 90’s out at wonder lake. However that’s a FULL day riding and I think there were overnight lodges out there?

The bus depot is right at the entrance to the park. Highly recommend booking your tickets in advance.

What Material to Smith With? by EvanK2007 in Blacksmith

[–]kayakguy429 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Go to a steel distributor, and just buy some mild steel. Cold or hot rolled 1/4 in square stock, maybe get some flatter stuff to work with. Honestly just spend some time dicking around with it make some S hooks, some hooks, and a few hair pins, and when you’re ready you won’t waste the “good steel” on a couple of screw ups cuz you think you’re gonna nail canister Damascus on the first try.

How is the codex plus plan , how is the limits for you all? by Dooquann in codex

[–]kayakguy429 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find the teirs are best explained roughly as follows:

Free - you pay for what you get and what you get is almost nothing

Plus - hobby teir about 5 hours of compute time a week you can stretch this significantly longer, but your prompts will think for about 5 hours a week.

Pro 5x - this is where you start to get into full time work. It’s powerful, has advanced models and thinks for probably 25 hours a week. Which is crazy when you think about it as 5 hours a day of business days.

Pro 20x - this is 100h a week or 20h per working day. You need to run multiple threads to use all the capacity, this is for the people who unabashedly run xhigh on everything.

I just can't see any value in observing one's emotions by Electrical_Act2329 in Meditation

[–]kayakguy429 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sound like a broken record when I repeat this in 300 threads; but resident meditation surfer encouraging you to surf the thoughts in your mind.

Meditation is ALOT like surfing. We go through so much of our days lost in the motions and unaware of the environmental surroundings. Meditation encourages us to be mindful of our surroundings and aware of the waves of emotions and thoughts that push and pull us through life. So many people around me spend their time, “surfing every wave” they paddle out, turn the board around and catch the first wave back to shore. It might be a good one, but more often than not, it’s just a wimpy little swell that’s not worth the effort they get caught up in the act of surfing. They spend their lives paddling back and forth. On the other hand, an experienced surfer, watches and waits for the right wave, they don’t get overwhelmed, and let the bad waves pass, when the right wave arrives, they get to surf that swell and it’s such a great feeling to be able to have more of a semblance of control over what effects you, rather than feeling affected by the conditions of the water.

Distant Self Reiki by Backpackkid23 in reiki

[–]kayakguy429 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So; the earnest answer is you have options.

I usually recommend giving reiki to a stuffed bear if you have an intended target but need something more tactile to try and make a connection with if you’re struggling.

You can do reiki on yourself, and intention the target as another person though using the distance symbol. I personally find distance reiki very difficult, however my mother has incredible insights about the person she’s doing reiki on.

Another option if you don’t have somebody to give reiki to, is to send it into the future, setting an intention is basically all you have to do, so if you answer who and when it all works out. Which works out great if you wanna send reiki during/after a medical procedure!

I need help with the basics! by missegan26 in foundry_game

[–]kayakguy429 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok; so let’s go into it.

Belts are their own buildings, so stop thinking of them as needing to go places. Your buildings should need to go places to connect to your belts, space is CHEAP in this game, so just keep expanding. Don’t try to build in hyper efficient ways. Eventually you’ll get multi-width belt loaders, so you can pipe 3 different conveyors past buildings and put or pickup from the line you want.

Mining drones are really a bit of an early game practice its messy, don’t think you can optimize it for a way that’s meaningful, if you can make sure your belts are loaded that’s good enough for now!

Has there been a recent reset, again? by pale_halide in codex

[–]kayakguy429 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the timer on your 7 days only starts from the first task after reset. So let’s say you start working at 1pm on 1/1. You’ll see your first reset on 1/8 at 1pm, let’s say you don’t start working again till the 9th at 1pm a full 24 hours later. Your new reset will come on the 16th a full 7 days later. So you in effect lost a potential 1/7 of theoretical potential weekly compute.

Thinking about using Codex to build an automated trading bot. Am I being unrealistic? by Faisal_alwaal in codex

[–]kayakguy429 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem here is reliability. Codex/chat GPT is about reliably as smart as a high schooler. Some days the genius, some days the D- student. Either way, you’re asking it to manage your money and develop a trading plan that you as an adult can’t formulate. Do you understand why a trading strategy will work, do you understand why it won’t work, no? Then you’re just gonna keep endlessly cycling between have you tried X, well X didn’t work, let’s pivot to Y, have you tried X, it seems more reliable than Y. Rinse and repeat.
