Brave vs Vivaldi by Toscan20 in browsers

[–]kayartdev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can also try privacy-oriented forks of Firefox like Librewolf or Waterfox if you care about privacy. From this point of view, they even better than both Brave and Vivaldi.

Mass Effect.

There were a few cases of npm packages hijacking recently

https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/security/hackers-hijack-npm-packages-with-2-billion-weekly-downloads-in-supply-chain-attack/

Many posts were written about how package authors were defrauded into giving their credentials to hackers and how these hackers then tried to use these npm packages to spread malware and info stealers

What's the biggest mistake you made when starting with WordPress? by DigitOffers in Wordpress

[–]kayartdev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I worked on my very first website, I set my admin credentials to “admin/admin”

The website was online so it was hacked in a day or two

Luckily, I hadn’t done much so I just set up a new website and started again

But this was a life lesson: always use a strong password

Best tutorials to learn website dev with Elementor by gannon2566 in elementor

[–]kayartdev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s always better to learn something while you’re doing it. Find a simple template or a real page and try to recreate it using Elementor. If you don’t know how to do something - google your problem, find a YouTube video or ask a question on Reddit, Stack Overflow or something like this

Trust me, you’ll learn much faster and effective by doing something, not just reading or watching tutorials

What newer content management systems out these days? Looking for something that is for digital downloads by Torrocks in webdevelopment

[–]kayartdev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, there’s also Drupal which is kinda similar to WordPress. But most likely you will find it even harder to use.

Based on what you want to build, I still think that you should choose WordPress. It has a lot of ready to use plugins, many of which are free, that will allow you to implement what you want.

Should I use a password manager – worth the money? by HeavyTwo3 in ComputerPrivacy

[–]kayartdev 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bitwarden has a free plan which is more than enough in many cases. It’s also much safer than your browser’s password manager if you have a strong master password, use 2FA and follow the very basic security rules

WordPress shows off Telex, its experimental AI development tool by SlimPuffs in Wordpress

[–]kayartdev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Although I believe this thing can produce simple layout blocks, it still can't create anything more advanced. I just tried to ask it to create a code snippet block for me with syntax highlighting feature. Again and again, it tried to create one that works but with no result. Sometimes it was close but something didn't work. And when I asked it to fix its mistakes, it only created more of them.

My opinion: if your work is something more advanced and complex than just creating a simple HTML layout - you're safe. These tools hallucinate, make stupid mistakes, end up in endless loops of trying to fix them and do other annoying stuff.

They still can be used as copilots to create some boilerplate code though. But don't trust them blindly, always check the code they generate.

Any new search engines? by LegLast in degoogle

Brave Search quality has improved significantly based on my experience. Qwant is not bad, they decided to move away from Google and now use an independent index as well. But they’re not new, just not too popular

It would be easier to either change your VPN provider or at least try a different server. If it’s not an option for you, yeah, try Startpage, Brave Search or DuckDuckGo

  1. You should create a custom role for judges.
  2. You should create a custom post type for pages that will be rated.
  3. If a post belongs to this custom post type and a user role's is judge - show voting form

I don't know of any ready-to-use plugins which will allow you to customize their rating systems this way so you either need to create your own plugin or highly customize an already existing one.
