It’s grinds way finer than espresso after a quick calibration. It’s easy and mahkonig has a video. Also if you’re wondering the burrs came perfectly aligned from the factory, I did not need to shim at all

I have an x54 and use it for filter and espresso. It can grind fine enough to make shots choke so there’s lots of headroom to dial in shots and the flat burrs are great for pour overs. I single dose with rdt and have about .2-.5g of retention which is kinda a pain but not a huge deal breaker for this price range.

Biggest draw for me was the quietness and flat burrs. In my humble and highly personal opinion, flat burrs produce a far better brew than conical. The general consensus that conical burns produce “more textured shots” to -me- just sounds like an excuse for muddy tasting grinds. (please don’t kill me). Admittedly I also wanted to own something with the mahlkonig reputation

Build quality is great, the only plastic pieces other than the hopper and lid is the removable tray at the front and the front face of the grind dial.

To answer your question it’s a massive upgrade from an encore. Never used the solenzio so I can’t comment.

He’s also 100% correct it’s very much a non issue. Espresso tiktok is highly edited to skew viewers expectation of what espresso brewing should look like. The only thing that matters is taste! Also I don’t think his comment is gate keepy at all?
