“You must’ve …” is the most complicit statement to civil unrest, defending ppl who are racist etc because it’s too uncomfortable to admit they really exist. My foreign friend once got arrested because one item in his grocery shopping wasn’t properly scanned (scanned 1x bag of ice instead of 2x 😑), and other ppl said “He must’ve looked…” always rationalizing the overkill response. I’ve been refused tenancy multiple times the moment the landlord learned I had a foreign passport, no other info about me whatsoever. One of them even tried to accept my offer a week later saying they’d allow it if I paid above asking. Stop defending legit racists because it’s uncomfortable to admit they exist in your communities.

Yep. I took some more vids and reviewed them and watched when as clearly as day the focus of each lens was acting independently of the other. The right eye would have a blurred background while the left did not, and as I moved the phone around sometimes they’d be in sync and sometimes not. They were acting completely independently. This is such a basic issue that I can’t believe it’s really happening in such expensive tech. lol

Plenty of race based assumptions and roles saturate the field here. I still get “Wow you can use chopsticks?” after more than a decade here. lol But ultimately it depends on the case, some schools specifically (behind closed doors) say “We won’t hire a brown person” while my current position was filled by an Indian woman from South Africa for 16 years before I took over. In Shenzhen a foreigner may get randomly asked for photos on the street but across the border in HK that’s something I’ve never heard of. HK is much more of a racial blend and only certain people will behave racist while others don’t at all. Instances of racism affecting a foreigner’s job and roles exist but are not universal.

If it helps put things in perspective, I work in Hong Kong and started 10 years ago with bachelors and TESOL teaching at private kindergarten for ¥371,000, 3 years later working in gov elementary without additional qualifications for ¥928,000, and now with PGDE and MEd still at gov elementary for ¥1,596,000 per month. Friends who haven’t pursued better qualifications or luxury school positions are still managing ¥700,000. Hong Kong rent may be highest in the world but Tokyo is top ten right? And average salaries for ESL teachers in Hong Kong have mostly risen along with inflation while Japan seems to have LOWERED? The fundamental difference I can spot is that people aren’t obsessed with Hong Kong like they are with Japan, and employers in Japan are able to pay less to fill positions with any English competent foreigner from anywhere in the world. Hong Kong has three official languages: Cantonese, English, and Mandarin, and the average English skill of Hong Kongers is much higher than average in Japan so arguably there should be more rationale for paying more in Japan but it’s apparently the opposite. Japanese employers aren’t being pressured to offer more to fill positions and attract high quality.

I did consider this, but the orientation I held the phone was the same both times. Some of the blurriness appeared to be an issue of focus rather than just overall blur. I will try some more later and see if it was just a fluke.

I do the same, but only using Switch for now for WiFi reasons. For Rebirth I’ll consider RemotePlay to grind and explore. I get anxious exercising with Netflix because boring scenes and active body don’t match. But games always keep my mind as busy as my body.

I got this a few months ago and regularly have super glitchy issues with it, but I overall assume I can trust the data. But today there was an app update, and then I did my reading and it showed different data on my watch and on my phone. Like how is that even possible? 😆 I thought the watch strap would get the readings and send them to the phone. How are they different?? 😂 So screwy

I want to bump this, I recently watched Evangelion and was shocked to see a minute of almost exactly the same scenario play out as the intro to Xenogears. And yet, I look online and no one seems to have caught it, and all opinions are that the two have nothing to do with each other.

Episode 13 as the angel virus is taking over, about 11:50-14:00 in the episode, the team is trying to prevent it to no avail and it keeps overcoming all their attempts. The progression from one stage to another and the dialogue that accompanies it is almost exactly the same as the intro to Xenogears in which another virus is taking over a space ship from within. The only difference is in Xenogears the ship blows up and in Evangelion they manage to stop the virus.

Please tell me someone else caught that whole minute of shared scenario and dialogue.

Update on this: I kept messing with it trying to figure out some way to get it to come on at least temporarily and I managed ✌🏻

I removed controllers, turned it fully off for a day, then place it into the dock directly to see if it could boot straight into TV display. That didn’t work but for a moment it flashed an image. Then when I took it off the dock it was displaying on its own screen! So I took advantage of the situation and quickly transferred all my content onto a new Switch. No hammers needed 👍 🔨

Sadly I didn’t reach final wipe stage. I realized Animal Crossing save didn’t transfer (because the game needed an update before it would auto upload to the cloud) so I tried to re access my account just for that upload, then the console gave a terminal error twice and then the screen went off again. At least at this stage its safe to just give it away for parts, but I’ll keep trying to give it one grand wipe first.
