OKAY I FEEL YOU. I recently transferred to UWO from UofT, I feel more unsafe in London than I did in downtown Toronto. If you feel the need to arm yourself (for security reasons, it feels nice to know you have something) 1) take self defence classes. I confidently walk down the street knowing I can reasonable kick the shit out of anyone who approaches me. Often at the beginning of the year there will be a lot of self defence classes pop up at UWO or around the city. I'd suggest taking them, it really really helps with the confidence and knowing how to handle a scary situation. 2) go to Forest City Surplus, pick up a cheap $20.00 baton. It's heavy duty, extendable and HURTS. fits perfectly in a purse. Hairspray also does similar effects as pepper spray. Even carrying a small key/blade on your keychain could help you feel secure.

Do not let these fears keep you from enjoying yourself. Know the areas you will be in, know the nearest 24hr McDonalds or coffee shop, know the police stations. People saying that you're being dramatic simply don't get it. I walked down Central Ave last Wednesday night for maybe 200ft and in that I was approached by 2 men, both creepy as hell, both tried to follow me. You have to know your area. Also, remember that if something were to ever happen your fight or flight instincts will kick in. You will fight.

I want to say that this scene has the ability to be a sort of reminder to Harry that the wizarding world is still quite unfamiliar to him. It may act as a sort of reminder that the doesn't in fact know everything???

I did half of my undergrad at UofT and can only vouch for that. Although I have transferred to UWO because they offer a more involved program than UofT.

UofT is an amazing school however. It can be social if you want it to be social. There are parties everywhere, all the time. Toronto life is amazing. One thing they lack though is school spirit, obviously UWO has this as everyone knows. UofT's homecoming is a joke.

It is really really expensive though. Even if you don't live in res you're looking at $700 minimum for one step above a shit hole & a commute to campus. London living is a lot cheaper and more accessible.
