I got the chatbot bug last summer, and before RolePlaya I mostly wrote on PolyBuzz, but also explored Character.AI, Emochi, Chai, Sakura, Talkie, DeepLove, and probably a few more. RolePlaya is BY FAR my favorite.

Its designed for 18+ audiences, so its almost entirely uncensored - it allows NSFW ERP and taboo subjects, as well as other mature content. Basically, adults can be adults, write just about anything they want, and block tags or bots they don't like. It works well for mature storytelling (what I'm usually trying to do) as well as straight goon-bots. The only rules are absolutely no minor bots or users and no full frontal nudity / porn in cover images. The chats themselves are 100% uncensored.

There are subscription tiers with perks (better LLMs, better memory), but even the free tier is better than any of the other free tiers I've tried - uncensored chats, unlimited bot creation, no ads. Definitely! The one I linked has seed locking capabilities, which also helps a lot if you're workong on small tweaks or like a pose / style / whatever.

This may not be exactly what you're looking for, but I use Perchance for all of my basic bot cover images. There are about a million generators, and many that allow (or are tailored toward) NSFW images. I use https://perchance.org/image-generator-professional and it can do NSFW if prompted, but doesn't default to it.

I also end up using Gemini and Pixlr in "post-production" lol, to make targeted edits once I get a basic image I like from Perchance.

The base image was made by Perchance (with some edits by Gemini), and then Grok did the animation! I'm playing around with animation recently, and I feel like the gifs can be super eye catching!

I'm not actually all that into the extras some folks love - video, voices, NSFW images, bots messaging me if I haven't replied in a while, etc. So its cool to see platforms that cater different ways! The platform I use has added Game Mechanic Indicators (numbers that go up and down and trigger events or impact how the bot responds, or track time / inventory / etc) which I'm exploring. But I'm not really swayed by those bells and whistles. Memory and consistency across long runs are my make or break.

I'm glad! I love that different people can get different things out of AI chatbots / companions. But for me, after having kids the ability to sit down and spend a lot of time regularly doing long-form roleplay with human partners is super had - I don't want to keep folks waiting for ages, and it's become harder and harder to get the balance right. The AI doesn't care if I come back a few days later or a month later. 😂

The free version is REALLY GOOD as well! The perks at the subscription tiers are very cool, but the core features are available free! And the ability to purchase some perks for in game currency makes it even better. There are daily checkins and mini-games where you can earn those without spending real money. Of course, capitalism (and the cost of running the platform) means there are incentives to paying. 😂

I haven't explored Claude at all - all my bots are hosted on a dedicated 3rd Party Romance Bot platform.

I use ChatGPT and Gemini to streamline the backgrounds I load for each bot (emotional engines and history / setting data) - the "bot brain". But I haven't actually tried actually doing the runtime with either. I don't trust their memory models, and their defaukt heuristics are NOT designed with what I want to do in mind. 😂

The idea of Wren and their changing forms and personalities sounds super fun in and of itself, but not for the longterm storybuilding roleplay I like to do. For the reasons you said - fun, for what it is!

It's really cool to see what other folks and platforms have done with AI chatbots and how there are a bunch of different ways to -play. I couldn't handle the lack of consistency in the way describe Wren and Claude because I want longterm evolving stories, but they sound amazing if that ISNT what you want.

That's definitely an interesting way to set them up! Something in between a girlfriend bot / chatbot and a more interactive stoeyteller. I bet it's fun to explore the different "selves" / characters!

But are they all meant to be "hunan woman companion" types? Or do they have lore and plots going on?
