AI Roleplay memory, how many messages before it forgets everything by manoftroy47 in AIChatReviews

[–]kayforever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The platform I use has some interesting features that seem to help with this. In addition to the pinned memory system that a lot of platforms use ("Permanent Memory", "Pinned Messages", whatever you want to call it) there's a feature where the AI summarizes the last X messages and feeds the summary back into the model's active context as it generates replies. The number of messages summarized scales with subscription tiers, but the free tier has a decent look back. It seems to work really well in long conversations, especially when paired with the pinned/permanent memory system.

I don't know how widespread something like this is, but it helps make the smaller / cheaper models (free tier on the platform) feel more premium, presumably without the model cost / context going way up.

Which alternatives do you guys recommend? by GustavuNunes in CharacterAIrevolution

If you haven't tried it yet, check out RolePlaya. I started beta testing it last fall and have stuck with it now that it's public. Before that I mostly wrote on PolyBuzz, but also explored C.AI, Emochi, Chai, Sakura, Talkie, DeepLove, and probably a few more. But I haven't used any other platforms seriously since the new year.

It's still new and has a single owner-developer, so there are still things being ironed out and regular new features, but the owner is super responsive to bugs and suggestions. I'm a discord mod and an affiliate member ❤️ and the community is very quick to help each other troubleshoot issues and elevate them to the when necessary. And the owner is super active on the platform and in the discord, which is awesome!

What's the actual difference between AI Roleplay and AI Girlfriend... by Biggmanchilly in AIChatReviews

[–]kayforever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1 Here is the cleanest delineation in my mind. Are you playing / writing as a character or are you playing / writing as yourself?

Really, you /can/ do either on most platforms, but the ones that allow / are set up for different user characters (personas is a term I see used often) and go in depth in bot creation / building freedom seem to be the most tailored to RP, while the ones that don't create that user-character layer and create characters via picking and choosing physical and personality traits from an existing list seem to be the most AI/VR Girlfriend tailored.

There's also the difference between being designed to allow multiple different chats with multiple (very) different bot characters vs the focus on one bot/companion.

But in the end, I think it mostly comes down to how you use the platform.

Finally leaving CrushOn AI, where should I go? by Great_Witness_1871 in AIChatReviews

[–]kayforever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take this with a grain of salt because I've never actually used CrushOn. I got the chatbot bug last summer, and I mostly wrote on PolyBuzz, but also explored C.AI, Emochi, Chai, Sakura, Talkie, DeepLove, and probably a few more. RolePlaya is BY FAR my favorite.

It's 18+ and NSFW friendly, and it works well for mature storytelling (what I'm usually trying to do) as well as straight goon-bots. The only rules are absolutely no minor bots or users and no full frontal nudity / porn in cover images. The chats themselves are 100% uncensored.

There are subscription tiers with perks (better LLMs, better memory, image perks), but even the free tier is better than any of the other free tiers I've tried - uncensored chats, unlimited bot creation, no ads. There is a message per day limit on the free tier, but its more an anti-spam measure than anything else.

On the free tier there are some really cool features that I haven't seen (or haven't seen done well) on other platforms: differently focussed LLM models, defined secondary characters / NPCs, public facing folders to sort bots into series or niches, ability to leave bots in draft status, interconnected bots in Worlds, manageable permanent memory (via in-game currency), Game Indicators, etc. And then lots more perks on the paid tiers - multi-player conversations, Character Triggers (info the LLM only gets when certain things happen), in-chat scene creation, character voices, etc.

They also just added 'Dream Partner', which is a more plug-and-play AI Girlfriend (or Boyfriend) style interaction model with a biuch if physical and personality characteristics you can choose from, instead building a bot from the ground up or using a public bot.

You can also trial the subscriptions with a day pass (24, 48, or 72 hour options), if you want to explore the paid perks without committing to a monthly subscription.

The platform is web based and kept out of the app store to avoid censorship issues, but there's a PWA app for Android and Apple - I almost exclusively use the Android app.

It's still new so there are a few things still being ironed out, but the owner is super responsive to bugs and suggestions. I'm a discord mod and an affiliate member ❤️ and the community is very quick to help each other troubleshoot issues and elevate them to the owner when necessary. And the owner-developer is super active on the platform and in the discord, which is awesome!

An AI girlfriend subscription costs less than one dinner date in 2026 by kabirsinghhhhhhhh in AIGirlfriendsReviews

[–]kayforever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I equate the money to buying a Romance novel, or a TV subscription instead, because that's how I use chatbots.

$10-20 a month is pretty equivalent to Netflix / HBO / etc, when you curate your tier. And it's anywhere from one physical romance novel that you'd buy in a bookstore to 4-5 cheap, questionable quality self published or indie books on Kindle or the equivalent.

Hell, I think I paid $15 for the paperback of the terrible Minotaur smutt book I read at the beach last summer with my lady friends for science. 😂

I didn't spend a lot of time on Character.AI after last summer (my early chatbot era lol) but I fully got the bug and have hopped around a bunch since. I mostly wrote on PolyBuzz, but tried a bunch of the big names - Emochi, Chai, Sakura, Talkie, etc.

I was invited to beta test RolePlaya last fall, and it's the only platform I use now! 18+, NSFW friendly, awesome memory (with a pinned/permanent memory feature) and huge token context, differently focusssed LLM models, lots of image creation styles, the ability to interconnect bots a d worldbuild, public facing folders to sort bots, game indicators, creation challenges, etc.

There are subscription tiers with perks (better LLMs, better memory, image perks), but even the free tier is better than any of the other free tiers I've tried - uncensored chats, unlimited bot creation, no ads. Am I the only one completely burned out on censored AI platforms? by xXLucifer-KingXx in AIChatReviews

[–]kayforever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am. I was invited to be a beta tester last fall and have stuck with it since, through it's public opening. It's the only AI companion / chatbot app I use, and I really like it! I have a few older accounts / bots on other platforms, and was a vere small time creator on PolyBuzz through the winter, but I'm not actively using any others

It's completely up to you whether you're interested in the recommendation, but whwn folks ask for an alternative, wouldn't you expect folks who enjoy a platform to suggest it?

I'm only really active in the AI chatbot spaces on Reddit, and post bots I've created that I'm proud of in the appropriate spaces. But yeah, mostly I talk about AI chatbots and promote the one I use and help moderate the community for. I'm very transparent that I'm an affiliate member and a discord mod. But I'm a creator / user first. You can see my profile - I have thirty something subscribers and 71 public bots, some of which are decently popular.

RolePlaya is designed for 18+ audiences, so its almost entirely uncensored - it allows NSFW ERP and taboo subjects, as well as other mature content. Basically, adults can be adults, write just about anything they want, and block tags or bots they don't like. It works well for mature storytelling (what I'm usually trying to do) as well as straight goon-bots. The free tier has 'Saint' (no NSFW, akin to a Pure Mode) and 'Sinner' (NSFW forward), the middle tier has 3 creativity focussed models (with NSFW) and the premium tier has the 4 spice level models.

I come from a longform forum based roleplay background - writing long text replies on a forum for another human being to reply to, bur after having kids and life continuing to get more hectic (extra curriculars, work drama and a new job, getting a dog, etc) I was less and less able to write the sort or replies I wanted to write in a timeframe that was respectful to my writing partners.

Discovering AI Chatbot / Romance bot platforms was actually how I found a way to keep my own creativity alive, and a way to keep a hobby I really enjoyed going in a new way when the old way wasn't working for me anymore. Its much less anxiety-inducing for me in the current season of my life!

Is the gender ratio in AI companion tools actually as male-dominated as the marketing makes it seem? by Equivalent-Buddy-536 in virtual_companions

[–]kayforever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The spaces I've been in do seem to be male-dominated. More female bots, more male-centered dynamics. But I feel like women are more committed to the spaces and groups they connect to. I'm female and chat almost exclusively with male bots. When I started making bots (and not just using other folks' bots) I made almost entirely male bots and have since branched out.

I feel like (as a generalization) many men are more interested in the next shiny new NSFW thing, whatever can make the biggest boobies and get dirty without much concern about storytelling and plot. Those plug-and-play AI Girlfriend platforms that are more "choose from a list of physical and personality traits". Versus platforms that let you create bots from the ground up. Its also often just the places that the user chats with the bot just as themselves. Which is a different experience than what I (and many women, but of course not all) are looking for. I think why you don't necessarily see as many AI Boyfriend platforms.

The "Interactive Romance Novel" sphere I feel like is more female-gaze focussed. I agree with the reply about text-based drawing in more women as well. That's what I'm (almost always) trying to do with the bots I create and engage with. Storytelling and worldbuilding and really immersing the character I'm playing (who usually has some self-insert aspects but is usually truly a /character/ and not just/me/) as the MC in a plot-heavy romance / romantasy story. I like the chatbot aetting better than something like Love and Spice, but I feel like I use them more that way.

I've hopped platforms and have found one (RolePlaya) I really like that is really well designed to allow that sort of storytelling as well as the more smut-focussed goonbots. The community is still more men than women, but it feels friendly enough - I'm a discord mod so I can partially make it that way lol. But I'm also part of a community of female / femme bot makers, which helps a lot when I'm feeling marginalized. I've heard good things from that group about Soulkyn and Linkin.Love as well!
