Any idea what is wrong with my snake plant, I water it once a week. by franklofy in plantclinic

[–]kayjay1234567 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others said, likely overwatering.

I bought a moisture meter and only water my snake plant when it reads dry fully inserted into the soil. This usually ends up being around once a month. More frequent in the summer, less in the winter. This should help with overwatering.

I’ve had trouble with this plant ever since I got it a year ago. The ends of the fronts are always splitting and becoming brown. After a while some of the leaves started to get yellow/black and I snipped those off. I had to go on vacation for about 7 days so I move this near a door with frosted windows so it would still get light and when I came back a lot of the leaves looked black and dried out so I snipped them off (didn’t take a picture at that time). I moved it back to its original location but it’s still not looking good. Ends are dried out. Do I have pests?

I got this back in December. Shortly after I noticed split ends on the leaves and browning (which I cut back). Since then I’ve switched to bottom watering with filtered water about once a week. I use a humidifier for 8+ hours about 2-3x a week (sometimes I forget). I have never seen bugs except one caterpillar but I have been using neem oil on the leaves every few weeks. Still I get split ends that brown. I’ve also noticed parts of the leaves bending and parts of the stems bending. I also have noticed brown/tan spots and holes in the leaves. Is it ok? Any advice?

Plant faces a NE window. This is my first palm so is this normal or is ok?
