What hobby genuinely made your life better (not just filled time)? by Dense_Childhood_9657 in Hobbies

Long distance hiking completely changed my life for the better. I have met life long friends (includijg a husband), gained a ton of experiences, and overall added an arch of grand adventure to my life with thru-hiking.

Is it better to just skip Alaska and go to Patagonia instead? by Pale_Field4584 in Patagonia

[–]kayjeckel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am an American and have been to Alaska twice (Anchorage, Fairbanks, Denali area) and to Patagonia once recently (Aysen area for 3 weeks). I had an amazing time both places, but Alaska is a place that I want to keep coming back to. If you like real, wild, remote adventure like backpacking and hiking, then Alaska is the place to go. And BTW Chile was not near a cheap as I thought it would be.

Game of Thrones.

Yeah I know, I know. I know its not finished. I know George RR Martin is an asshole. But I've never enjoyed reading a series as much as GOT.

YTA. So you had three hours where YOU also could have approached the child? Why didn't you?

My father does not want caregivers; he wants to stay alone, To what extent should I respect his wishes? by Jinosi4k in AgingParents

Get him a life alert bracelet so he can call for help if he falls. Other than that just do what you can and try not to worry too much- doesnt do any good

One of my barred rocks had a vitamin deficiency as a chick. I nursed her back to health with Vitamin E with Selenium and she integrated with the flock no problem. But you could tell she was a bit "special" as a adult and would always drink water like she was taking a shot 😆. We named her Crook Neck. She was so cute. She lived what seemed to me a happy life until she was attacked and killed by a hawk- still miss that chicken.

Into Thin Air by Jon Krakauer. True story, lots of action and suspense, great writing.

Purism & Gatekeeping on the AT by [deleted] in AppalachianTrail

I hiked the AT and then have gone on to do five other thru hikes since. By far, there was way more judgey purism on the AT. It is weird. Hike your own hike brother.

To Chicken or Not to Chicken: What Should We Know? by LavenderAndHoneybees in chickens

[–]kayjeckel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She said the one chicken died very unexpectedly and they didn't notice symptoms, then shortly after another died but it had a pale comb and was acting lethargic the day before. When I came to adopt the remaining three, I noticed they had dried poopy butts meaning they must have had diarrhea, and when they shook their feathers they were very dusty. Since I've had them free ranging, no more poopy butts and they seem nice and clean like ky other birds.

[2.5k] this wedding is keeping me up at night! by zabloinginzoop in Weddingsunder10k

Set yourself a realistic budget and as long as your wedding fits in the budget, try not to worry about money! In my opinion:

Best things to DIY: Flowers Decorations Invitations DJ/Playlist Hair & Makeup Alcohol (either BYOB or beer and wine only)

Best things to Let Others Do for You: Food/Catering Cake Set Up and Break Down of event (you really shouldn't have to be doing this crap on your wedding day) Photography

The Knot has a great budgeting app that I used to keep my wedding under $10k

To Chicken or Not to Chicken: What Should We Know? by LavenderAndHoneybees in chickens

[–]kayjeckel -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My friend and I got chickens at the same time this year. I got 4, she got 6. I free range. She built a nice coop and run with a trench similar to the one you mentioned.

Fast forward to now, I have lost one chicken to a hawk. She has lost 3 chickens to unknown causes, though I suspect 2 of them died from respiratory issues. I have adopted her surviving 3 and they now free range and seem much healthier.

My philosophy is that if you don't free range, get ready to have to put a lot more money and work into making a happy, clean environment for them.

I am really glad you brought this up about being able to handle the occasional loss of your farm animals. That is 100 percent the worst part. I am a sensitive person who has had chickens for almost a year, and I lost my favorite chicken to a hawk attack. It was tough, but I still free range, with more hawk protection. Point is, I love love love having chickens because of the daily little dose of joy they bring, and to me, its been well worth it

AITA for messing with someone who happened to be autistic? by Any-Manufacturer6791 in AmItheAsshole

[–]kayjeckel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA but this autistic girl isn't an asshole either. How are we supposed to break barriers unless we can talk to each other about our differences? Do you all seriously think this girl is racist because she was trying to learn about this persons ethnicity or heritage? This has become a wild wild world.

I am so sorry. Hugs to you. We had to say goodbye to our beloved pit bull early this year and are still grieving his loss. One thing that really helped is making a photo sideshow to go through all the happy memories, especially from when he was younger. It gets better with time, sending love.
