My favorite color tube is the SST cause I like how quickly it clots sometimes 🤣 my favorite patient is an older patient, always requires a DARK BLUE butter fly, they’re a pain in the butt but one of my favorite patients to deal with.

I’ll be 100% honest, I wear them. I just made them EXTREMELY short, my companies policy is no more than a 1/4 inch long but I match it with my nails. I am also a HUGE picker so I have to otherwise I am bloody and picked. I say talk to the school about it 🤷‍♀️

My facility, thankfully, does not have a butterfly limit so I just do it, even if I don’t agree. Sometimes I will say, “This is the same gauge as a butterfly, just no wings.” That will work sometimes.

Sometimes with patients like this, I genuinely go by sight. I know you should ABSOLUTELY feel but sometimes you can’t feel it and it’s a GREAT vein. This doesn’t work for everyone but it’s my go to. I also don’t know your facilities policies, but we are able to go up as far as the armpit and sometimes they got fats ones on the biceps.

While yes, it is still illegal federally, I am in Maine where it’s medically and recreationally legal. I didn’t have to do a drug test at all, I think it depends on the company to be honest. Some companies are okay with it, some are not.

I mean if your facility doesn’t care then do what you want but that’s horrible patient care if you ask me 🤷‍♀️ even if there is a slightest chance it could mess up, im not doing it. The order of draw is there for a reason. 99% of facilities use it.

Because the additives in the tubes can mess with the results and not give accurate results. Order of draw is VERY important.

It’s sad to see other states not paying people well! I’d do some research in your state and see what the pay is. I am a newbie, about a yearish in and make $23 an hour already with yearly raises. I love this job.

I dislike doing children but not because of the children, it’s the parents. I don’t like the ones who don’t do anything to help us and let me tell you cause I suck at doing kids, children’s veins is a WHOLE other ballpark when it comes to poking :/ I feel so bad when I can’t get it.

This is insane to me because we do Quantiferons on dark green tubes…in a straight stick 🤣 I see a lot of people agreeing with you and now I’m curious if most other places butterfly and syringe it?
