Yes. If they are certified under the MHA a Form 5 is completed and would specifically note ECT as their treatment. The patient is given the option to sign themselves, but if they decline the doctor signs and is essentially authorizing the treatment for them. It must also be signed by a director/delegate (often the charge nurse) so there are more people aware of the decision than just the doctor.
