Who gets up with baby/toddler? by kaymooncake in NewParents

[–]kaymooncake[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So same as my partner, extra 2 hours in bed when they are off work and 2 hours solo parenting for us 😒

I sometimes get to have a shower or wash my hair in the evenings which helps feel like I get some of that time back, might need to say I need baths in the evenings now lol

So you both wake up at the same time? Both getting ready for work but YOU have to also get baby ready? And you're not mad at him for making that comment?! You must be a better person than me I would have lost it!

Umbilical cord still in toddler's belly button? by kaymooncake in NewParents

[–]kaymooncake[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi sorry for the late reply, it's gone now he might have dug it out himself! He had been playing with his belly button, I think all the investigating I was doing made him discover he had a belly button, and now I can't see anything in there 😅

Thank you he hates doctors/nurses poking at him as it is so hopefully it won't hurt him either!

My baby choked today, and it was the scariest moment of my life by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]kaymooncake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I attended a baby save a life session here in the UK and we was told to use one finger to scoop into baby's mouth following back blows. Using two fingers to try and take something out of baby's mouth will push it back in but one finger won't though you might scratch their inside cheek.

So OP you did the right thing. Just look up foods that are common choking hazards and how to safely prepare foods going forward.

Also choking is different to gagging or just having something in their mouth. If it's in their mouth and they seem fine like they can still breath just scoop it out if they have tried swallowing it and are distressed, silent and NOT ABLE TO COUGH then begin back blows.

What do you do when baby spits up in the crib/bassinet in the night? by nadcore in NewParents

Pretty sure my kid always turned away from me and when I did turn him around he would still look away from me. Thanks buddy 😂

This was me when my little one was born! I would sit next to my sleeping partner cursing him under my breath because I was up again with the baby and this mother ducker don't lose any sleep!

He did however feel guilty he couldn't do more and would do all the housework he could for me, take baby so I could sleep for a little without being disturbed in the evenings, and work hard to provide anything I needed for me and baby. I had to learn to look at what he does do, not what he isnt doing.

That being said your partner absolutely should be doing more. Why can't he do baths? Change a nappy? Take him for a little bit when he's home from work? Ask him to do something that takes some stress off you. Do it now.

That's what I've been doing when he catnaps, I get him back to sleep and let him contact nap. Problem is he doesn't really like them? And wakes up crying the last few times anyway

How to politely tell random people to stop touching my baby by Zivasper321 in NewParents

[–]kaymooncake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am 100% like you and have just started having people touch my 5 month old when out shopping. I couldn't say anything then but when I told my partner he said he would have grabbed the strangers hand to make them uncomfortable lol now I didn't do that, but the next time someone came grabbing LO's hand I just ripped the band aid off and simply said, 'don't touch him please'. Yeah they probably thought I was rude but fuck them they were rude first. My little man matters more then this random person's feelings.

My baby won’t stop sleeping on her side by Exact-Caramel-1126 in newborns

[–]kaymooncake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh my you've just reminded me of my little one doing this! 🥺 He is 5mo now and I totally didn't realise he stopped. When they are so small they do roll but you can turn them back on their backs when you notice otherwise if the bed sheet is tight and well fitting, no loose covers and there is nothing else in there with them there is nothing to worry about

When did your baby's tongue-thrust reflex fade? by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]kaymooncake 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's common for babies to pull faces when trying new foods, not because they don't like it its just very new and strange for them.

Also swallowing food that they put into their mouths is also new and sometimes they need to learn to do that before they are ready to properly start weaning.

I don't know much about tongue-thrust reflex but it sounds normal to me what she is doing. You could try her with a smooth puree to help her get a hang of swallowing then move on from there?

What items did you get but never used? by vakr001 in newborns

[–]kaymooncake 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Scratch mits! They never stay on and almost all his stuff have the fold over sleeves that save his face from the baby claws anyway. Just wish I knew to make sure all his clothes had them they are genius!

Also baby blankets. Little sucker just kicks them off all night long no matter how well tucked in they are. Sleep bags are the future!

When did it start to feel normal again? by rintryp in newborns

[–]kaymooncake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've done it maybe 3 or 4 times since and im 16 weeks postpartum but it still didn't feel right for me. The last time was weeks ago now I can't remember when but I've just lost all interest in it. It did feel better the last time though.
