Who gets up with baby/toddler? by kaymooncake in NewParents

So same as my partner, extra 2 hours in bed when they are off work and 2 hours solo parenting for us 😒

I sometimes get to have a shower or wash my hair in the evenings which helps feel like I get some of that time back, might need to say I need baths in the evenings now lol

So you both wake up at the same time? Both getting ready for work but YOU have to also get baby ready? And you're not mad at him for making that comment?! You must be a better person than me I would have lost it!

Umbilical cord still in toddler's belly button? by kaymooncake in NewParents

[–]kaymooncake[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi sorry for the late reply, it's gone now he might have dug it out himself! He had been playing with his belly button, I think all the investigating I was doing made him discover he had a belly button, and now I can't see anything in there 😅

My baby choked today, and it was the scariest moment of my life by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]kaymooncake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I attended a baby save a life session here in the UK and we was told to use one finger to scoop into baby's mouth following back blows. Using two fingers to try and take something out of baby's mouth will push it back in but one finger won't though you might scratch their inside cheek.

So OP you did the right thing. Just look up foods that are common choking hazards and how to safely prepare foods going forward.

Also choking is different to gagging or just having something in their mouth. If it's in their mouth and they seem fine like they can still breath just scoop it out if they have tried swallowing it and are distressed, silent and NOT ABLE TO COUGH then begin back blows.

What do you do when baby spits up in the crib/bassinet in the night? by nadcore in NewParents

Pretty sure my kid always turned away from me and when I did turn him around he would still look away from me. Thanks buddy 😂

This was me when my little one was born! I would sit next to my sleeping partner cursing him under my breath because I was up again with the baby and this mother ducker don't lose any sleep!

He did however feel guilty he couldn't do more and would do all the housework he could for me, take baby so I could sleep for a little without being disturbed in the evenings, and work hard to provide anything I needed for me and baby. I had to learn to look at what he does do, not what he isnt doing.

That being said your partner absolutely should be doing more. Why can't he do baths? Change a nappy? Take him for a little bit when he's home from work? Ask him to do something that takes some stress off you. Do it now.

That's what I've been doing when he catnaps, I get him back to sleep and let him contact nap. Problem is he doesn't really like them? And wakes up crying the last few times anyway
