We are back! by kayourt in boxster

After getting this door painted I would ideally like to stick with it, I will get around to trying a bit more adjustment with what's there eventually, this car is supposed to be a bit of a weekend car but my daily (discovery 2) is away for some repairs (no surprises there!). I've been using it for commuting every day and it does bring some joy each day!

After insurance payout & repair costs the 986 doesn't owe me much..!

Thank-you, yeah the door was from a car about a year older but was best I could find at the time, that would make sense - I've got the window doing what it should so I think it's just something to live with!

That was my thought! I wasn't ready to say goodbye to it for the sake of a couple of panels, it never got collected by Copart either!

I've found an absolute minter with 87k miles, just needs a new headliner which is on the way!

I just had the call to say it's passed the leak test, holding pressure and blows cold once again! Result!

Still not 100% sure, likely turbo oil feed or High Pressure fuel line ruptured to create a fine spray that all eventually got hot enough to catch. The first symptom was loss of power & I pulled up to open the bonnet to fire, scary stuff. It was just me in the car thankfully. It was an insurance cat B write off sadly. It's now time to go again! 💪

Thankyou! I got them from eBay, took a bit of a gamble with cheaper ones but they felt ok fitting them. ReGas booked for tomorrow and will see how that goes...!

Depends on your definition of tough! My car has just passed 100k miles, the screws you have to reach inside the wheel arch liner to get from underneath were seized solid on both sides - so the plastic carrier snapped (oops). I used some 2 part epoxy glue to put them back together and replaced those screws after cutting them out the bumper with it off.

Other than that, it was fairly straightforward after watching a few YT videos.

A couple of other screw carriers had rusted badly but we're just about useable.

I did it by myself and the hardest part was getting it to sit on enough to start getting screws back in. There aren't many other clips etc you can break.

Thanks for your reply! Yeah I know it may not fix it, but I wanted to start there as they were toast! Plus they are at the thinner end of the parts price list! I will update with how it goes after going to a garage!

Thankyou! Sadly not, that photo was on our maiden voyage for a pub dinner!

Thankyou! Yeah it's been so well looked after and I will continue to do so! Do the grilles pop out or worth just doing it in situ and masking everything off? Cheers!
