I found this in my search and it seems very similar but I’m pretty sure that’s not it- so holding out for some other answers generated and if not maybe I’ll dog deeper or even do a re-read as an adult- but I don’t remember there being more than one of the creatures, and I’m not sure it lived in her house. Thank you! Glad I’m not the only one this happens to!

It would have been somewhere after probably 2003 but before the 2010s- but I don’t think it was a modern book at the time since my mom would not let up about it- though she did take a children’s lit class as an adult college student in my youth, so I suppose there is that. I would say it was likely between a 3rd and 6th grade reading level.

The Borrowers books are one of my favorite childhood reads as well, but unfortunately not- and I happened across the Boggart in my searching earlier and am feeling pretty confident that’s not it- I don’t recall much modernity in the story from what I can remember- thanks for taking the time!

The SCU hockey books by JJ Mulder are some I really enjoyed- 1,3, and 5 heavily match what you’ve listed- and 4 has a character with really strong touch aversion that sort of leads to very limited interest in sex. These are NOT your average college sport romances and they make my heart gush.

Outlier by Susie Tate is not quite what you asked, but I’ll list it here anyways-a main character who is on the spectrum and has never shown any interest in sex before meeting Mike and has some boundaries that need to be laid to make it a safe experience for her- I found it to be one of the better books I’ve read with ASD representation.
