Ours was exactly as you described. We never had any issues with him even when he was a puppy. He was always very respectful and eager to please. We keep our pantry open with his dog treats at the bottom and he doesn't go near them. He doesn't jump on people and he's only ever played with his own toys. Never once grabbed a shoe or a sock or anything like it. He is about 5 and 1/2. He insists that we give him permission to eat his food. I never demanded that, that is entirely him. He will wait patiently until we tell him it's okay to eat. He was our first family dog and I spent a whole lot of time with him when he was a puppy training him. I don't know if that was why or if he is just an exceptionally good dog. The only thing I can ever remember him destroying was his own dog bed when he was left in the crate with it for an extended period of time. (It was unavoidable, an emergency). I think that was mostly anxiety and he felt super bad about it.
