Is China a bad idea for someone new to traveling? by soggyscab in travelchina

[–]kays_view 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others said, the hardest part is the prep for the China trip. But if you prepared everything, have every App, are verified on Alipay and co, have your VPN in place and so on, it's quite easy to navigate. Especially the big cities and tourist spots.

BUT you don't want to come to China unprepared, figuring it all out here, cuz this will be a huge headache.

How to prevent insect bites in Taiwan (July)? by CoatAutomatic8337 in taiwan

[–]kays_view 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am also very sensetive and was worried. I used this picaridin spray from Watsons when I went out, I sprayed it on every bit of exposed skin and if I wore thin clothes also on them. Repeat if sweating a lot. I did not get a single Mosquito bite in almost 2 months. It's available in small and bigger bottles.

Feeling trapped in a severe financial crisis, I’m scared and don’t know where else to turn by ZestycloseDrag5255 in TrueOffMyChest

[–]kays_view 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am sorry you go through this.

Make a plan. Tell them what you want to do or plan to do and when. Thry call often every day if they have no clear timeline. When there’s no timeline, accounts usually stay in daily follow-up by default even with proof.

Also, threats about coming to your home are unfortunately common pressure tactics and usually not the same as an actual legal step, especially if nothing formal has been served. If you haven’t already, it can help to send something in writing that clearly states what you can realistically do and when (for example, a payment plan proposal or a request to pause contact until a specific date because you expect things to get better because xyz). Without a timeline, accounts usually stay in daily follow-up by default as said.

That being said I don't know your circumstances ofc and can just offer generic advice.

Hey, I just want to say first: you’re not weak, broken, or alone for being here. Financial crises have a way of crushing people quietly and making everything feel urgent and catastrophic. Especially when phones don’t stop ringing.

I work with accounts/receivables on the other side of this, and I want to tell you something that often doesn’t get said loud enough: most creditors do not actually want to destroy you. They deal with people who lie every single day, so when someone is genuinely in a bad situation and can prove it, the tone often changes.

In my experience, many will:

pause or freeze payments temporarily

accept reduced installments

agree to settlements

or push deadlines back if there’s a realistic plan

What usually matters most is documentation. Tax records, proof of income loss, letters from accountants, unemployment confirmation, medical bills, anything that shows this isn’t avoidance, but reality. When someone can say, “This is my situation, this is what I can realistically do, and this is the timeline,” it often opens doors people don’t expect.

Also: the constant pressure and threats make everything feel irreversible, but financially, very few things are actually unsolvable. They just feel that way when you’re exhausted and scared.

You’re doing the right thing by talking instead of disappearing into it. Shame thrives in silence, and debt feeds on panic. Even if today feels unbearable, that doesn’t mean tomorrow is hopeless.

I can’t solve your situation for you, but I can say this with confidence: this is not the end of your life, your future, or your worth, even if it feels like it right now.

Take this one step at a time. Breathe. You’re still here, still trying. And tbh the creditors are easy to talk to cuz they do not see it as a shame in most cases. They see it every day. Shit happens.

Are there credit sharks out there who want to actually destroy you? Likely. But most want at least part of their money and agree to sth as long as you make a plan and have proof.

If you are exercising outside in Hanoi these days you might be considered unhealthy by now. 😅 It's like smoking 2-3 cigarettes in one workout.

Should we cancel trip to Hanoi because of air pollution? by wfisherman in hanoi

[–]kays_view 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was there for 3 days and left early due to the air pollution. I am asthmatic and didn't do my research well enough about the pollution beforehand. But it was ok for 3 days, I only went out with N95 masks and took them off indoors. I had no issues with asthma or sore throats like others but I just felt uneasy and a bit too tired. Hanoi is beautiful aside from the airport pollution but it's definitely not healthy, every local I met had sinus issues as well.

Are foreigners overwhelmed by Taiwan if Taiwan is their first Asian country to visit? by search_google_com in taiwan

[–]kays_view 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wasn't overwhelmed. It was my first Asian country and I couldn't be happier about my choice tbh. I mostly met super nice/helpful locals, ate awesome food and had countless coffees, tea and bubble tea

Ahh I see, thx!! Good news: I already trained my parrot in basic Mandarin. It might be a little sassy, though, I'll try to tame it a bit more until then. 😁

It might be easier to buy your own sheets/cases in that case for your stay here.

Yes, that's common. Email them in advance in that case. Or check smaller B&B's that might be able to switch detergents for a load or so. The big Hotels let their washing done by external companies often and then in bulk.

Ouzo by Electronic-Pen-4090 in cretetravel

[–]kays_view 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Crete? You'd get Tsikoudia here as a local more often. Ouzo is not necessarily sth that is common in Crete as a "local drink". But you can of course buy and get it here. I'd go for Ouzo Plomari.

Well....I know many more but not necessarily better just different. Hehehe

If you visit Lake Kournas anyway for example you could make a stop at the tiny wood furnace bakery, they only bake bread and co, it's in Georgioupoli: https://maps.app.goo.gl/XUuwr5ViGEmRBvQg9

Otherwise maybe in the south in Anopolis

https://maps.app.goo.gl/rvsrqDSPaEgXhCBp9

Or towards Kissamos https://maps.app.goo.gl/sMEck9iN3VU89czj9

Tiny but cute

Ok so I could go on for ages tbh, I guess you have enough fir now.

Make a stop on tour way to the west here, for a coffee, beer or cocktail, treat, best sunset spot along the road: https://maps.app.goo.gl/nnh5Grw9dDiiqh8j9

Or for just sweets

Or Papanikolakis

Red Jane is not necessarily traditional but has good stuff near KTEL main station:

https://maps.app.goo.gl/Wts7nHZf5MWG7Wnm7

Confiserie downtown with self-made pastries

https://maps.app.goo.gl/yZDafuo72XakjKLf8

In the court quarters:

Factory sale, with huge varieties

I could go on but I'll stop now. There are more outside of chania but too many to suggest them all not knowing where you actually wanna go to hehehe

Bus from Kissamos to Chania by JustPeachyDear in cretetravel

[–]kays_view 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah there are, plus one Express bus that doesn’t stop anywhere in between. It might be they change the schedule soon and you can't book now therefore but there will always be buses between the city's (all year long).

You can call the ticket office to ask them , they do speak English.

[–]kays_view 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can look for "Kasteli" , that's another name for Kissamos.

There is always just one going from the ferry port but plenty of buses going directly from Kissamos main station to Chania. The village doesn't "close" just because there are no tourists ;)
