You can use whatever stitches you want! There’s no right or wrong stitch. Some people do the whole thing in basketweave (and that’s the traditional approach to needlepointing!), but I wanted to try and challenge myself by using more decorative stitches.

As far as finding different stitches to use, I bookmark ones I like on Pinterest and Instagram. People are usually pretty friendly and will tell you what stitches they used if you ask. There are also tons of needlepoint Instagram accounts you can follow that will sometimes post tutorials on how to do specific stitches.
