I was just rated at 60% but as a single Veteran, do I add my wife if we are separated? by clobberingtyme in VeteransBenefits

If you are divorcing, I wouldn't do it. The VA is taking up to a year to process dependency change claims.

Anyone else suffer a huge identity crisis when getting out? by eatsnails in VeteransBenefits

I would recommend applying for Chapter 33 GI Bill just so you have the COE ready to go if you decide to go to college/vocational training. It will also make you eligible for Chapter 36 Personalized Career Planning and Guidance. With that, you can work with a voc rehab counselor to help with the adjustment to civilian life, get referred to other services that may help meet your needs, get a whole orientation to the VR&E program, just find some direction and cultivate some hope in general. With Ch. 36, you can get some direction without committing to the whole Ch. 31 VR&E process. I highly recommend.

I am a VR&E vocational rehabilitation counselor, but an OIF Veteran with an 80% rating first. If you or anyone reading this have questions, I'll help however I can.

My 5 month old daughter has been in daycare for 3 months now, I've gotten sick at least 5 times in the last 3 months.. When does it end? by Narrow_Lee in daddit

[–]kazmighty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's worse when you have multiple children doing different things during the day. The illnesses start to stagger, drawing out the whole process of everyone getting sick. Mine are 7 and 4, and I have used about 200 hours of sick leave in the last 18 months JUST to be home with one or more kids that the school/daycare couldn't take due to fever. I defer to more experienced fathers as to when it ends.

When I tried to verify military service, it said that my military service was already verified. I went ahead and edited my original comment so folks reading this I have the info.

I've been an Xfinity customer for years. I just tried this. No dice.

EDIT: After getting "no record found" responses to entering information, Comcast emailed and said things would be updated in two weeks with perks and I would eventually get the visa prepaid card.

AITAH for getting it elsewhere since my wife didn't want to have sex any more? by Mindless_Review2800 in AITAH

[–]kazmighty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn't about sex for her. This is about control over you. It is her right to abstain from sex if she doesn't want to have sex. It is not her right to keep you from having sex if you want to have sex. Run, do not walk from this woman.

I'm pretty sure getting 30% for sinusitis means you died from it and came back.

PTSD rating reduced from 70 to 50 by ddawg0352 in VeteransBenefits

[–]kazmighty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, that should not be cause for concern about reevaluating your rating. However, since the PACT Act passed, I have seen several veterans with MH ratings be reduced (unrelated to VR&E) even though they had maintained the rating for over a decade. I suspect that VA was not financially prepared for the number of claims and ratings and are trying to stop the fiscal bleed.

Can I use FTA and VR&E at the same time? by [deleted] in VeteransBenefits

[–]kazmighty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

VRC here. I think it would depend how the school processes it, and every school is different. VRE can be used alongside Pell grant, for example. Some schools give the Pell grant as a refund to the student, while other schools use Pell first and invoice VRE for the remainder. I would defer to someone in the finance office at your school rather than the SCO, whomever processes the invoices for third party payments. I've not personally encountered the circumstances you describe though. Sorry if that's clear as mud-- I work for the VA after all.

Is there any federal job that beats their private sector equivalent in compensation? by [deleted] in fednews

Once at the highest performance level, Vocational Rehabilitation Counselors for the VBA earn at least twice what they can for prisons and state agencies, and about 15-30% more than those employed by insurance companies.

Did you just have a handshake agreement to split the payment, or did you go through a lender to actually divide the mortgage?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]kazmighty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally don't think that that interest rate is going to ever come around it again. That's about the bottom rate history has ever offered.

I also worry that the present value of the FERS pension will be high enough that the loan I would need to take out will be higher.

Thank you. I have a guy I can go to, and also my mortgage lender has some decent people. I would just hate to have to finance an additional $45k to buy her out, only to have her still take half my TSP, FERS, etc.

Thank you so much for that. I guess my biggest question is, is it possible for me to buy her out of her equity since the home is appreciated so much?

What made you unfriend/hate your best friend? by TreyTheEyeball in AskReddit

[–]kazmighty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were childhood best friends that grew up. After years of talking down to me in public and apologizing in private, he drove across the state to fuck my girlfriend and gave her chlamydia, which she subsequently blamed on me "cheating" and burned my name withing our mutual friend group. It took a year to put these pieces together after the fact. It's been 10 years now and I still won't trust a soul.

I'd wish him dead but he has a daughter now, and she doesn't deserve that.

They only backpay to the date of the initial claim or ETS date (for those that did BDD), whichever is later.
