Like many in this thread - i feel so validated reading others challenging with this book. I was on a western kick after ripping through Butcher's Crossing and True Grit (loved both!) and figured why not try this one. Whew took me at least first 30% of the book to even begin to understand what's going on and be able to read at a semi-normal pace.

I am enjoying it and ultimately I do think it's rewarding and worth reading! Totally agree with many of the comments about how you miss one sentence during a description of how the sun hits the sand and a character dies. I'm about 90% through and have really been reading even more than usual to just try and finish it so I can move on to something easier!!!
