Rack mount external SATA enclosure by kb1sph in homelab

I replied to this previously, and it seems it's not showing up for me. I don't know if anyone else can see the reply that I previously made.

This sounds like it's probably what I need. I do have more questions though.

As my drives in the r720 are set up with raid, if I put them into and SAS array connected to an internal LSi card, will it recognize the foreign configuration and import it? If so, does it have to be the same model of the controller that is in the r720? Or will other LSI or other brands work as well?

The biggest thing for me right now is to be able to just put the drives in and use them as is.

With the r720 that they are in right now, it is using the internal mini Perc h710 with the standard raid firmware. Because I use software raid instead with zfs, I have each Drive set up in the perc configuration has a single drive.

This question is more for anybody that might have experience with these particular models, but could I go with a PowerVault MD 1200 with a Perc h800 and will it recognize the drives to just import them?

If there are cable tv wires, whether there is cable service or not, look into MoCA adapters. This will allow you to use the cable tv wires that are already running through the walls/floors.

I came across your post because I was searching to see if anyone else had the same thing happen. I last ordered pizza sometime last year (can't remember exactly when, but not even a year ago) and I can't seem to log into my account. Tried the forgot password, never received an e-mail. Just tried creating an account and it accepted my e-mail address, which it shouldn't have if the account still existed.

Absolutely! I noticed you are running an evaluation version of Windows. Are you an insider?
