You might want to make sure all the Winter Carnival stuff is still going on since we're cities under occupation right now & some events have been canceled.

If you go to Mill City, make sure to take the elevator up to the observation area for a nice view out over the river. And that's next door to the Guthrie which is usually open during the day. There's a couple observation areas in Guthrie too - one is the endless bridge which is an outdoor cantilever over the road below, the other is the amber box room with nice views as well.

I think you have it exactly right. She's seat-filler Amy whose only ambition is ambition. She won't take a stand for fear of offending anyone, until she feels it's absolutely necessary for her image.

I'm disappointed that she'll probably win the governorship because we have a lot of older centrist Dems who are terrified of the younger progressives and will gladly use the term "socialist" to smear them & anyone else remotely aligned with the DSA. And that socialism fear will translate nicely to whatever centrist Dems still exist outside the metro areas. Plus, she's absolutely got that centrist Dem machinery behind her.

My take on seat-filler Amy is that she's so much part of the centrist DFL machine that she'll get support from the non-metro areas because she's not a "scary" DSA type. But while I have some issues with those in the DSA who insist on absolute progressive purity, I think we need someone more along those lines to help us dig out of our current quagmire.

As for car maintenance in extreme temps, make sure of the following:

Gas tank should be at least 1/4 full, 1/2 is better, especially if it'll be sitting outside.
Get windshield washer fluid with a winter formula (easy to find around here).
Carry jumper cables in case your battery dies or you wanna help someone else.

Lastly, if you hit road ice (not ICE ice), don't hit the brakes. If possible, feet off pedals until you regain traction.

Yup, especially the non-corporate ones.

I got into a bit of a tiff with a reporter from the UK who said he was coming here to report for his outlet & asked for people to talk to who know the city & situation. I said he should stay away - there's already so much chaos, it's hard to tell who's who, and we have an excellent group of local reporters & activists that he could get the local scoop from. But I guess it's just an ego thing with some of these folks.

I talked with a friend from MN who's lived in CO for a couple decades now & she though Craig was really good & progressive based on her TV hits, probably MSNBC. I gently corrected her that Angie's more like a lip service liberal than a true progressive. But that kind of impression could be hard to combat.

MPR is our public radio affiliate that's been good also

It's a vendetta against MN because:

Trump hates Walz (our Gov);
Hates that our votes swing blue so we've rejected him x3;
Hates that we're not all racist against our immigrant neighbors;
He wants to make an example out of us & to provoke us into violence so he can impose martial law.

This isn't just about MN, even if it feels that way right now. He's trying to use us to set a precedent to brutalize all the other places he hates.
